I can't believe it...

...but I've actually finished the first draft of the Pros novel I've been working on for, oh, far too long. (It's been at least seven years, on and off, and probably longer.)

But it's done! 75,000 plus words and it's done!

Nothing left now but the editing. (With luck, that will take substantially less than seven years to complete.)

And then, of course, I have to figure out what to do with the bastard...

Wow!! That's brilliant news - for you and especially for us! Congratulations, that's an incredible achievement, and I can't wait to read it. You should be so proud of yourself. xxxx

Congrats!!!

That is quite the accomplishment, especially after bringing a little one into your life to compete with your time.

Congratulations

That's terrific news. Seven years! Did you find that the you that started the novel was a different person with different story ideas from the you that ended the novel?

Wow, that's fantastic news - congratulations! Look forward to finding out more, when you're ready to spring it on an eagerly anticipating world!

A Pros novel! How fantastic, congratulations!

Congratulations from here as well!

Well done!

That's great.

Oh, goody. . . .I can'r wait to read :)

[identity profile] ancastar.livejournal.com 2008-02-24 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Said it privately, but wanted to say it here too.

GOOD ON YOU!!!

You rock, mon amie. There is nothing more to say. :-)

[identity profile] gilda-elise.livejournal.com 2008-02-24 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I know it'll mean waiting longer and then paying for it, but I'd like to to see it in print. Coming from you, I know I'll love it. :-)

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2008-02-24 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it still needs polishing, but it's done! As much as anything, it's proof that I can actually write a novel length piece that, more or less, hangs together.

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2008-02-24 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's the panic that I'm going back to work in three weeks (three weeks!) that forced me to finally finish the bastard. It's only going to get harder to find writing time from this point forward.

But hey, I know I can finish a novel now. Which is cool.

Did you find that the you that started the novel was a different person with different story ideas from the you that ended the novel?

The spine of the thing is the same, and the first few scenes have never changed much, but it's certainly gone through an evolution, much as I have. (For a start, I've gone from a childless thirtysomething to a fortysomething mom, which has had a huge impact on how I view the world.) The main change, though, was the B plot, which never worked and which I finally cracked in January, resulting in the wholesale gutting and complete revising of about 20,000 words. And it didn't even hurt that much, which told me it was the right thing to do.

[identity profile] partners4life.livejournal.com 2008-02-24 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I look forward to reading it. You should definitely publish it.

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2008-02-24 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
With luck, I'll get the edits done in a few months. Then I'll try and figure out how to publish it...

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2008-02-24 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a relief that the first part of the slog is done. And really, I sort of enjoy the editing.

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2008-02-24 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
If I was going to write a novel in any fandom, it was going to be Pros. *g*

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2008-02-24 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2008-02-24 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a big relief. Well, until I get stuck into the editing, anyway. *g*

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2008-02-24 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It's public unveiling won't be for a while, but it's closer than it has been. (There have been times I wondered if it'd ever be done.)

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2008-02-24 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! And you also rock!

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2008-02-24 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
The amount of time I've spent on this, I'm going to make sure it comes out in some sort of zine form. Just a matter of how it happens.

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2008-02-24 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm definitely going to make sure it comes out as a zine, however small the print run.

Next thing up: your story!

But it's got to feel good that it's completed. It doesn't matter how long. . . you stuck with it even if you left and came back. Now that little nag at the back of the brain can be squashed :) I still look forward to it whenever.

[identity profile] nakeisha.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, yes, editing *shudder*

Good luck with it.

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually enjoy the editing far more than writing the first draft. Mind you, I've never had to deal with something this long before, so we'll see how it goes...

[identity profile] nakeisha.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I loathe and detest and hate and despise editing. So I don't do things like 'first drafts', I make darn sure what I write is pretty much (with exceptions of course) what the final thing will be. I do do it (screen and hard copy, but I get zero pleasure out of it *sigh*).

I've always been like that with essays, dissertations, stories at school, etc.

But I know other people really enjoy editing (and actually dislike writing).

Good luck with it.

[identity profile] byslantedlight.livejournal.com 2008-02-26 11:06 am (UTC)(link)
Very belatedly - congratulations! You must feel wonderful right now, even with the editing still to come. Shall look forward to seeing it one of these days... *g*

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2008-02-27 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
I'd probably be feeling better if I didn't have two writing deadlines hanging over my head, but still, it's nice to have a complete draft. I may even have it knocked into shape sooner rather than later.
