I once got lost in the little alley from the Inns of Court which leads up to an exit in the Strand. (It was a Sunday, and I slipped in from the Strand behind someone with a key, ahem.) And it was like walking through Diagon Alley: narrow, not entirely straight, cobbles, little old-fashioned frontages, evocative names on brass plates... And there was even a robe shop! - Ede and Ravenscroft, who do academic and legal gowns.
