Two Last Drabbles: Ephemera 7 and 8

Author: P.R. Zed
Fandom: LotR
Pairing: A/B
Notes: The last of the Ephemera series. Two drabbles this time, because I had just a little bit more to say about Boromir.

Ephemera 7

His demeanour is arrogant, his words, boastful, and yet Aragorn knows this warrior of Gondor for a good man.

Perhaps it is because he can hear fear under Boromir's words, see vulnerability behind his soldier's stance. Perhaps it is because he knows that Boromir's dearest wish is for the safety of the city that has sent him to find answers and allies.

Boromir is a good man. But not a long-lived one. Aragorn can sense the currents of destiny preparing to overwhelm him.

And perhaps it is that destiny, more than his goodness, that draws Aragorn toward the Steward's son.

Ephemera 8

Turning on his side, Boromir caresses the cheek of his sleeping ranger.

His ranger. But for how long?

One of their party has been lost already. Death may await them all around the river's next bend.

And if they live? If they avoid the blades of Sauron's dread Orcs, if they halt the Enemy's plans to unleash darkness upon the world, still they must be parted. For Aragorn is betrothed to the Evenstar and Boromir will not stand between them.

The touch of soft lips on his mouth pulls him from thoughts of loss and back to the moment's joy.

This isn't very coherent feedback, but I really liked both of these - love how Aragorn senses Boromir's doom hanging over him right from the beginning and that, in the second one, Boromir knows he'll never keep Aragorn ... ::sniff sniff:: My poor doomed OTP ;)

I like that Aragorn can sense that Boromir is a 'good man' despite all the signs and portents. Yet it is not the goodness that draws him to Boromir, but that he may be fated--as Aragorn himself is.
Boromir's perspective is about possession: His ranger. But for how long? As ever, Boromir focuses on control, rather than need.

I liked them both, and found this series very enjoyable. Congrats of finding those fleeting moments to celebrate in all your 'ships.

*wail*

*sniffle*

Gorgeously bittersweet, like the rest of the series.

Ah! Gorgeousness. Love that Aragorn sees Boromir's goodness, and that he senses the fate that's waiting for him. I find it especially poignant that Boromir is wondering what will become of them if they survive, and that it is Aragorn that pulls him away from these thoughts.

Very gentle and sad and lovely, thanks! ;)

Thank you for that! Both of them understanding that no matter what, it could not last between them.

Please write a happy one!

A very emotive piece of writing ... you really gave me a sense of what they truly felt about each other - beautiful.

Looking forward to your happy VigBean :)
