Adventures in Parenting

The last few days have been, shall we say, challenging.

We woke up Saturday to find Rosalind had thrown up. And she then proceeded to throw up all day, which wasn't fun for any of us. (In between throwing up she was still pretty energetic, which I'm taking as further proof that little though she is, she has the constitution of a horse.)

Sunday, she was a bit off, but clearly recovering.

Then at 3 a.m. Monday, and in spite of the copious handwashing we did on Saturday, the Sweetie and I both woke up and started, you guessed it, throwing up, a state that continued most of the day. I'm just relieved that Ros could go to daycare (the Sweetie managed to take her there in between bouts of ick) 'cause I honestly don't know that we could have looked after her much ourselves. The day was spent almost entirely in bed, in between rounds of running to the bathroom.

At least we both seem to be over the worst of it, though I still feel like I've been run over by a truck.

Next time there's a big round of sick at our house, I'm kindly asking the gods that they stagger the illness so we're not both down at once.

Oh my god!

How are you guys today? Are you getting better? Do you need soup? Put me on speed dial for anything and everything that you need!

PS I'm going out to the back yard right now to slaughter the appropriate animal for the Gods so they stagger the next illness... that being said (and done, in moments) I have to tell you that, in my experience, the Gods rarely listen. They appear to glean great joy from making lives hellish down here....

Hugs of love support and calm stomachs.

Ya know, I seriously considered calling you last night to see if you could come over and help for a few hours, but in the end we managed.

Darn those gods, anyway.

I think we're both on the road to wellness now, though my intentions to work at home have mostly been scuppered by an intense need for sleep. I did an hour and a half, then crashed until right this moment. (I'd wake up and think, "yeah, I'll get up in a minute." Right.)

Big virtual hugs back. (I think virtual is as close as you'd want to get to any of us right now.)

Heh ---I can't tell you how many bugs my son brought home from preschool and gave to me. He inherited my husband's immune system and got well in a day or two, while it would be weeks for me.

It gets better as they get older.

Something that did occur to me though: I was reading an article about tribal immunity and I'm wondering if adoptive parents have less imunity to their kids' bugs because they're not actually blood related.

Anyway, get better and stay that way!

I can take the colds, but this was nasty. I'm sure we'll get a few more bouts before she's out of grade school, but I really hope I don't go down at the same time as the big guy. (We were both stuck in bed all yesterday, in between yak bouts, and would occasionally moan, "why don't we have a grandmother close by." Oh well.)

The tribal immunity thing is interesting. Shall have to track it.

On the positive side, though neither of us is eating much, we're both feeling much more human.

Will help ANYTIME and just so you know, feel free to make a 3 am phone call anytime too! We're used to being up then.(That's depressing, isn't it? Oh well, that's parenting....)

Big hugs virtually and for real. I'll take my chances and wash my virtual hands.

Get the sleep, let work wait. I'm a very strong believer in the adage "If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!" And god knows Momma can't be happy after no sleep and copious sick!

More hugs (It's a Jewish mother thang.)

Okay, next time I shall call. And you feel free to return the favour. Anything I can do. Ever.

Thankfully, both Don and I seem to be on the mend. We're still not eating much (a smidge of rice and half a banana were all I could manage tonight) but we're not on the verge of throwing up all the time.
