Oh. My.

There has been job interview news, and a little girl and mom weekend spent at grandma's, and I'm too tired to post about any of it. Mostly because we just spent 3 hours in the local emergency room.

It wasn't anything too traumatic. Ros has had a cough since yesterday--we were sleeping in the same room at my mom's place, and she kept both of us up with it last night--but mostly seemed okay. Then at 6 tonight we noticed she was spiking a fever of 104. Tylenol was given, she seemed sleepy but okay, and then woke up after an hour, crying hysterically and holding her ears.

Of course, the children's after hours clinic our pediatrician uses closed 45 minutes before this happened. So it was off to emergency for us.

The place was a zoo. The waiting room was packed, and there were EMS people from three ambulances lined up at triage. The little girl waiting with her family behind us was throwing up. And then Ros started throwing up. All over the Sweetie and herself.

The throwing up thing might have bumped us up in queue, because by the time I went home and came back with clean clothes for them both, they'd been in to see the doctor and came out with a prescription for antibiotics to treat the ear infection we'd suspected all along. (The doctor said the throwing up was probably because of nausea from the ear infection. Fingers crossed he's right.)

We gave Ros a wee bit of the dinner she wouldn't eat when the fever spiked, have put her to bed, and now I'm going to pass out. And not think about the interview and teaching demo on Thursday that I have to prep for.

At least I'm too exhausted to be panicked about anything.

OMG. Jeez, what an exhausting, stressful time. I sincerely hope Ros is doing better now and that you can get some rest.

Take care of you and yours xxx

She's doing better, though currently unconscious, and I have to say that spending a day relaxing and watching kids' telly was not the worst way to spend my day. *g*

Awww, thanks. She's doing much better.

That's great news!

I hope that Ros feels much better when she gets up. It's been my limited experience that young kids get very sick very fast, but then get better almost instantly. They bounce back very quickly. I hope that is the case for your daughter.

Ros was kinda loopy energetic this morning, which is her usual behaviour with a low grade fever. But we seem to be past the worst of it. There's been no more crying, and no more throwing up. (We're grateful for the last. There are some brutal stomach bugs going around right now and we'd be happy to avoid them.)

Ros should be back in daycare by mid-week.

Cripes. I'm glad Ros is alright. Let us know more about the job interview when you can.

(((((((P)))))))

It was quite hard to take when she was just crying helplessly and we were trying to find a better option than emergency. She actually calmed down once we got to the hospital. She loves observing in situations like that, and it probably helped that we told her she'd be seeing a doctor when they got to our turn.

Just posted about the interview stuff. As an H.R. person, I'm sure you'll find the behaviour of my interviewer...interesting. *g* But the job sounds cool, so fingers crossed.

Sounds as though emergency rooms are the same the world over.
It's possible, too, that Ros' vomiting could be a reaction to the smell of the other child's vomit. That can set me off. I do hope she's feeling a lot better now.

Emergency rooms aren't any fun anywhere. (I'm very glad we avoided the ones in China, though.)

Ya know, the other kid throwing up nearly did me in, but Ros mostly seemed curious about the whole thing. "Why is the little girl throwing up, mommy?" Sometimes I think she's destined to be a doctor. (She was really upset when they wouldn't let her watch them take her cast off last summer. The nurse thought she was sparing Ros the trauma. She found it more traumatic not to see what was happening.

Oh, dear. How stressful.

Poor Ros and poor you.

I would think the doctor is correct about the throwing up being related to the ear infection - it's a common thing.

*Good vibes that she recovers soon*

*Good vibes for you on Thursday*

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2010-02-16 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
We're both taking it easy today. She seems to be over the worse, and I'm hoping she'll be over the fever in a day or two.

Thanks for the good vibes. *g*

I'm sorry petal, I know how scary that has to be for all of you. ♥

It's good to hear that it's only an ear infection though. My baby brother used to get a lot of them and he always responded remarkably fast to the antibiotics as his body hadn't had a chance to build up any sort of tolerance to them.

I hope Ros makes a fast recovery and that the prep for Thursday goes smoothly. *hugs you*

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2010-02-16 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
At least it's slightly less scary now that we've been around the parenting block a few times. (Ros got a stomach bug three days after we came back from China, and we got sent immediately to the hospital because she was borderline malnourished when we got her. Then it took them half an hour to get an I.V. into her, while she screamed and shook. That was scary.)

I figured it was an ear infection. I got them constantly as a kid, and know how painful they can be. But at least the antibiotics always seem to work quickly on kids.

[identity profile] msmoat.livejournal.com 2010-02-16 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yikes! That is both scary and hard work! I hope the antibiotics do their thing and everything settles back to normal.

::Hugs::

Good luck on Thursday! (I am confident you'll be fabulous--since you are!)

We're both taking it easy today, and Ros seems to be doing okay. It looks like she might take a 3 hour nap today, but she no doubt needs it.

Thanks for the good wishes for Thursday. Here's hoping. *g*

Eeeek! I'm so sorry Ros is unwell :( Little ones are tricky like that, they get ill suddenly and violently (though I do hope it doesn't happen again!)
My sister found a pediatrician who was available 24/7 for emergences (she lived locally).
Hugs to you and the Sweetie and lovely Ros!

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2010-02-16 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Kids get sick fast, but at least they get well fast too.

I love Ros' pediatrician, but she'd be even more awesome if there was some sort of 24/7 phone line for her practice.

We're both having a relaxing day. I'm hoping Ros will be over the worst of it by tomorrow, and maybe even back in daycare by Thursday.

Its never any fun when the little ones get sick.

I am glad I am catching up on these posts a few days late and know she is doing better now.
