Sweet Charity Vid: A Pain That I'm Used To (Batman)
Lo, these many months ago,
sarren successfully bid on me in the Sweet Charity auction and requested a Batman vid. Specifically, she asked for a vid highlighting the friendship between Batman and Jim Gordon.
Many months later, this is that vid.

ancastar for taking a look, even though it's not her fandom.

The icon is just 'cos it's currently my only Bat icon. *g*
There are some really nice parallel edits and the way the scenes slow down to match the slow period in the middle of the song is just great.
It must have been bloody difficult to pull off too as the film is so dark, I don't mean content but the lighting in this case.
Thanks for letting the rest of us see it. ♥
Re: The icon is just 'cos it's currently my only Bat icon. *g*
Glad you enjoyed it. It was an agonizing one to pull off, and not just because the footage was so bloody dark. There's not a heck of a lot of Gordon in the films, and he's with Batman even less. Creating a relationship between them took some fancy footwork. At least I think I pulled it off.
It's good to see your icon is as serious as mine. *cough*
You did pull it off and it worked really well with an usual song. I think the rhythm of it would be difficult to edit to as well, yet you pulled it off.
I've actually been having a few dark thoughts about a SH vid being set to Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus but the telephone line, ah the telephone.
I'll see your one wacky icon, and raise you one
Personal Jesus for SH is an intriguing idea. Heck the telephone line's not that tough. If I could vid the "Transatlantic shopping spree" line in Cosy Prisons (and WTF does that even mean, man?) you can deal with the telephone line.
Re: I'll see your one wacky icon, and raise you one
There's just something about the Holmes/Watson relationship that just makes me think of that song... erm.... Oh yeah, it's happy night at Chez Vixen. *g*
I know! I know! There are cheap weekend, sometimes just next day return flights to New York from major Western European airports that people take just to shop in New York. The dollar has traditionally been very week against the pound for instance and luxury goods just cost less anyway. A bunch of my cousins' mates went to NY last October to do their Christmas shopping.
Heck, I'm almost out of wacky
Thanks for solving the lyric mystery. I reckoned it must be something like that. Not that it would have helped me vid the damn line. (In the end I just ignored it and went with the internal story.)
I'm never out of whacky
I would LOVE you to take a crack at it. ♥
And that's why we luuuvvvv you
Shall give this a go. Be prepared for whinging and requests for a beta.
Re: And that's why we luuuvvvv you
I am brave. Bring on the whinging! *juts jaw in resolute style* *g*

FLAIL*FLAIL*FLAIL*FLAIL*FLAIL*FLAIL*FLAIL*FLAIL
I have sneakily boasted about this on my lj (am at work) and plan to do more boasting on Batman comms tonight!!!!!!!!!!!
You are AWESOME.
THANK YOU.

Re: FLAIL*FLAIL*FLAIL*FLAIL*FLAIL*FLAIL*FLAIL*FLAIL
I hope it was at least a bit fun for you? Sometimes?
Re: FLAIL*FLAIL*FLAIL*FLAIL*FLAIL*FLAIL*FLAIL*FLAIL
What can I say. I must have been punchy.
This was totally fun for me. It was a challenge, which is my kind of fun. Plus, you gave me back my Bat movie. I'd been reluctant to go back and watch Batman Begins because I loathe how Nolan shot the action scenes. But making the vid made me realize that, action scenes aside, I love, love, LOVE the character stuff going on in the film, and for that I can put up with crappy editing, and lousy choreography.

Thanks!
on edit: I noticed you're on S&H and we've got a few of the same friends. Can I friend you?

And absolutely, feel free to friend me. I shall friend you back.

Also, this vid apparently did what I couldn't for the last week or so and worked through my writer's block and I can get back to writing Bruce/Gordon fic that really needs finishing. So, you know: THANKS. :)

And yeah, the footage was a challenge. (This took literally months, off and on, to complete.) But I'm pleased that it seems to have worked. And it gave you shivers! Yay!
(Fab icon, BTW.)

Also, just a heads-up that I'm reccing this. Because my flist is a Jim/Bruce crowd and they need to see this ;)

I'm very pleased you think this is worth a rec. Thanks!

Some of the things that were challenges for you--lack of footage, POV--seem to have been alleviated. I don't know what exactly you did, but I like it! I felt like you somehow magically fond more Commissioner Gordon shots. Did you? Or did you just cut differently?
As before, I really liked how you used Gotham City and the bats to set the mood and to frame the action They worked well. I thought the parallels between Gordon's relationship with his son and the flashbacks with young Bruce were tighter too. All in all, wonderful work. I hope your bidder is well pleased.

I haven't made significant changes since you last saw it, but I have tweaked a few things. Changed the order of a few shots, found better Bruce/Batman footage, tweaked a few of the Gordon bits. (I'd have loved to have found more Gordon footage, but it's just not there.) It helped just to leave it alone for a month and then come back with fresh eyes so I could rip out what wasn't working.
I'm much better pleased with it now, and my bidder seems very happy indeed.
I'm doing a Holmes vid now. Shhhh, don't tell anyone. *g*

Wish I had your talent. Can't wait to see if you do take a run at Sherlock Holmes.
My account recently expired or I would have thrown my Batman WTF?! CHUM icon at you.

As for Holmes, I've got 33 seconds of a vid done. Three more minutes of song, and it'll be finished.
