TIFF 2011, Finale

The film fest is over for another year, and I was hoping, again, to get caught up on the reviews I haven't written. But that's been derailed, again. Ros and I were supposed to meet the Sweetie for a post-fest dinner at Ros' favourite restaurant, but she started throwing up just as we were about to head out the door. And it's looking like it might be a long night of dealing with a very unhappy little girl.

So until I can get the reviews done, I thought I'd post the trailers of three of my favourite films of the fest.

First up, Ralph Fiennes' Coriolanus, which manages to both be an ingenious modern day version and just a cracking fine film:

Watch it here if the embed fails

Second is Wim Wenders' Pina, a 3D film of the modern dance of the late choreographer Pina Bausch. It's stunning and beautiful and the best use of 3D I've seen since Herzog's Cave of Forgotten Dreams.

Finally, there's Headhunters, a far too fun Norwegian thriller:

oh my gosh, Pina looks like a total must-see. The trailer totally transfixed me... look forward to the review!

More importantly though I hope Ros has recovered.

Pina is wonderful. The dances themselves are amazing, but the director also includes really lovely interviews with the dancers about their working method and their relationship with the choreographer.

Ros has been home recovering with her dad, and looks to have mostly kicked whatever bug it was. Though she still only wants to eat broth, crackers, and jello, so she's not completely recovered yet.

really lovely interviews with the dancers about their working method and their relationship with the choreographer. Oh fab, that was one of the things I loved most about Ballets Russes.

And I sympathize - tummy bugs with little ones are horrible all round.

I hope Ros is feeling a lot better and that you managed to get some sleep yourself as well. ♥

Ros was waking up miserable every hour through the night, but not throwing up, so that's a bonus. And the Sweetie reports that she's finally beginning to show some energy. Fingers crossed, she'll be back to school tomorow.

Me, I'm just hoping the big people in our house don't come down with this bug. And that I get over the cold I developed yesterday whilst all the other stuff was going on. And that I get a good night's sleep. ::sigh::

I'm glad to hear that she's doing better. I hope that extends to the rest of the family as well. ♥

Well, the cold has flattened me. I suspect I'll be MIA for the next day or so. Let's just hope the cold doesn't decide to double team me with the stomach bug.

Hope that Ros is on the mend ♥.

And I am especially taken with the trailer for Coriolanus.

Ros is doing well. And now I've been flattened by a cold. ::pouts and sniffs::

They cut that Coriolanus trailer totally like an action film. Which isn't entirely misleading, but it's still amusing. (They have, however, mostly obscured the homoerotic frisson between Fiennes and Gerard Butler, which is really too bad.)
