Martial Arts Post 1.0
It's been a hectic time in the Zed/Sweetie/Ros household, and one of the many things keeping us busy is Ros doing Tae Kwan Do twice a week at a studio not far from our house. The studio is a really great space. The Kwan Jan Nim and a lot of the main black belt/teachers are women, and it's a remarkably nurturing place, considering they're also teaching everyone how to, you know, kick and punch people.
I've been wanting to go back into martial arts training for ages, and this seemed like a great place to do it in. So this week I signed up for a month's trial, and this morning I did my very first 6 a.m. class.
It was awesome.
It was also slightly nuts, owing to the fact that most of the other crazy people who decided to get up at an ungodly hour to train are black belts. Once upon a time I was a blue belt, and they're letting me wear that belt as a courtesy, but man, I am soooo not in that kind of shape any more. But if I keep this up, I have a feeling that I'm soon going to be.
To celebrate, I thought I'd post a pic of Ros and me at her first belt testing last month.

I have no desire to be a hockey mom, and while I'm pretty okay with being a soccer mom, I totally love being a martial arts mom. *g*

In my book you are slightly nuts. Getting up at that ungodly hour just to put your body through torture! But then that's just me, I am not a morning person. *g* You should be right though if you've already done it before.

As for the class, I'm up at that time anyway, and I'm always too knackered to exercise at night, so it seemed like a good fit. So far, so good...

Erm, did you say 6am?? I salute you :D Me, I'm a dance mom and very glad classes are after school...

I get up at 6 anyway, so I figured I might as well try that class. Of course, a 6 a.m. class means getting up at 5:30, but I'll try not to think of that. :-/

I'm off to Mexico for the month of Feb. We should get together when I get back.

Have fun in Mexico. Let me know when you're back.

Exercise at 6am is something you would have to not only pay me a LOT for but also probably supply Jason as an escort, but each to their own etc ♥

I didn't start off as a morning person, but I seem to have ended up that way. Comes of having a kid who woke up at 6 a.m. every day for 2 years. She's still usually up by 6:30 on weekends, but at least we can set her up with TV and breakfast and catch a bit more sleep ourselves. Having Jason as an escort to class, or better yet, a sparring partner, would make it all more palatable. Yum. *g*

Of course, we'll see how I feel in a couple of weeks.

Well done, you! It's great you enjoyed that class - that's the least you deserved for getting up that early! And as much as I like to see the two of you progressing with your belts - I'm also slightly scared now... ;D

I am ridiculously susceptible to exercise endorphins. I was pretty much high on them at work all day Thursday. This makes it rather easy to keep up an exercise regime once I find one I can fit in my schedule, even when that means 6 a.m. sessions.

But that's a good thing, it really is! I never ever have that and I hate that I don't - I wish exercise would make me happy, I really do! The best I can feel is totally happily tired but I only ever get that from swimming. It's a nice feeling though, too. ;)
