Soccer Night and the Sweetie's Film Choices
The forecast was calling for thunderstorms tonight, and we were down five kids (including our best player), but the seven we had played a really scrappy game in spite of being on the field a lot. Ros even was really mixing it up and is starting to not overthink the dribbling. Yay! We still lost, 2 - 6, but given the fact that the other team's coach had one phenomenal player and was running actual strategy that sometimes even worked, I'd say we did pretty good.
In other news, the Sweetie has just informed me that he and his (also straight) film-going buddy are going to see Magic Mike tomorrow night. That's why I love 'im. Though I'm a bit bitter he'll get to see it before me. (I tried to go with a friend last night but it sold out. We saw the entirely lovely Moonrise Kingdom instead.)

IMDB summarizes Magic Mike as "A male stripper teaches a younger performer how to party, pick up women, and make easy money." Why do I think the lead characters should be played by Howard Donald and Robbie Williams? Or Jason Orange and Mark Owen? Why??
I read a very bad review about Moonrise Kingdom in my monthly movie magazine, they didn't like it at all. But if you're recommending it, I shall give it a try. Absolutely nothing to do with Edward Norton in a scout's uniform. No no...
PS: I've only just noticed I do not have a Howard/Rob-icon. What's WRONG with me?!?

That would be awesome!
Moonrise Kingdom is typical Wes Anderson, which is to say extremely mannered and stylized, but I thought it was charming. My opinion was no doubt influenced by the fact that it's set in the year I was born (1965!) and there was a lot of things that had huge resonance for me. The girl in the story is always reading these library books that looked like the kids books I read in our local library, and the boy is at a scout camp that brought to mind my guide camping experiences. But it's really very sweet as well. Also, Edward Norton in a scout uniform is gawkily charming.

Howard/Rob pics are hard to find. I know from experience. But your winking!Rob icon is perfect!

I'll give Moonrise Kingdom a chance then. The way you describe it, it sounds an awful lot of fun.
But just the other day there were a couple of lovely Howard-and-Rob-doing-interviews-together-posts on tumblr - there must be some nice pics! Meanwhile have some lovely Mark-and-Howard-are-supermen instead... :)

...without the text, obviously, but I can't find them anymore. Le sigh. Am I the only one who never finds things again on tumblr?? Anyway, they were very nice, a series with pics like that. Have some singing Donalliams, erm, Willonald...or whatever their name is instead...
Off to bed now. I'll go on a quest to find them tomorrow, okay??
EDIT: LOOK WHAT I FOUND IN MY TUMBLR QUEUE!!

And that gif of Rob kissing Howard is ADORABLE! Baby!Rob is just irresistible. And I don't usually think that about him.

I've read mixed reviews about Magic Mike. I think for the pretty it sounds great but I'm not big on preachy, so... I might wait for Netflix. That way I can pause on the muscles and FF on the other stuff. I want to see it for Joe M. He plays one of my fav characters on True Blood.

I really want to see it as well, quite frankly the pretty is calling to me.

Moonrise Kingdom is utterly gorgeous to look at, in a mid-'60s kind of way. I'm sure you'll love it.

Nope I say you are doing brilliantly and therefore you are :D.
Seriously from your posts you are obviously getting the team playing together and enjoying themselves (which as you say is the best thing about it) and with 5 players down to score 2 goals is fantastic.

As for last night, I'm glad we got up to 7 players. At first we only had 5, which would have meant that all 5 of the poor little blighters would have been on the field for the whole game, and at this age that's pretty much not on. At least with 7 we could rotate 2 off at a time.

I want to see 'Magic Mike' because of the nakedness, the more nakedness and the fact that the trailer we're getting here is basically presenting it as a love story between Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer - I know it isn't this, but I am so ready to re-write it in my head and on paper if necessary! *g* Not out here for a while though.

The nakedness of Magic Mike is definitely a selling feature. As is Channing Tatum, who gained my affection by going all out for the homoerotic subtext in The Eagle. Our trailer seems to be more about Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer's sister, but I'm very much ready to re-write it in my head. (I don't know when I'm going to see it. Another few friends have tried to see it and had it sell out. Which is kind of awesome, in that it shows Hollywood the power of the female audience, but also annoying when you just want to see the damn movie.)
