The Soccer Report

In spite of record-breaking heat today, we had a pretty good game. We played a team of bigger, faster, more aggressive kids (they kept committing fouls on each other, forget our team) and we managed to keep them to a draw, 2 - 2. Yay!

Also yay for Ros really getting in there and doing a fab job. She was getting into the scrum and regularly turning the ball when the other team got it, and in spite of overthinking the dribbling during the practice, she didn't during the game and made a couple of nice runs down the field with the ball.

Now if I can just get them to do a bit more passing in front of the net, I'll be happy.

Wow! \o/ for great result! Now teach them how to tackle and you're done! *g*

\o/ indeed! And they're not too bad at tackling, but two of our best players still are sort of forgetting about passing and occasionally tackling each other. Oh well, they're all doing pretty well.

I am overly amused by the other team fouling each other. :D

And indeed yay for Ros getting stuck in.

They all really wanted the ball, and if they had to mow down their own teammates to get it, then by god, that's what they were going to do. I'm just amazed our much smaller, much less agressive team held their own against them.

Definitely yay for Ros getting stuck in. She's finally almost back to where she was at the end of last year.

I am so impressed that Ros plays soccer. I did when I was a kid, and loved it. Of course, that was in the old days, and when the other teams eventually found out I was a girl I wasn't allowed to play anymore.

Oh my, they wouldn't let you play?! That's horrible.

I had a brief fling at playing soccer in grade 5, but it ended badly when I tripped over the ball just as someone else was winding up to kick the ball and I got kicked in the head.

I didn't take it up again until uni, but then I played in a weekly game with friends for ages. I'd love to find a league to play now, but most of the ones for women of my (advanced) age are for rather more serious players than I am.

Excellent result, and Ros sounds like she's improving all the time! :)

It's always fun, but it's nice to see them all doing better each week. And Ros too!
