Soccer Report, End of the Season!

It was our last regular season game today, and we ended in a 3 - 3 draw with a really tough team. Though it was a really tough team with a replacement coach who kept fielding the wrong number of players. (I got to play the experienced old hand and help him out with the logistics a couple of times, which I found hilarious.)

Except for one of our problem kids who's barely shown up most of the season, everyone has shown a lot of improvement over the season and seem to be enjoying themselves.

We've got one last "playoff" game in a week and a half, though at this age that means you show up for one game and then get pizza and a trophy.

I'm actually looking forward to coaching again next year! Shocking. And I'm trying to get the Sweetie to sign up as my official assistant coach, though he's holding back. Partly because everyone already usually assumes he's the head coach--which is hilarious as he's the least sporty guy on the planet and knows virtually nothing about footie--and he figures that would only get worse if he had an official coach shirt.

And now I'm going to finish packing up. Tomorrow we leave for Chicago and WorldCon!

ETA: Just checked, and I'm the very last person listed in the Chicon membership list. Let's hear it for that Z V combination!

I am going to miss the soccer reports, i always find them highly entertaining, in fact, my friends will miss the soccer reports that i verbally relate to them, they are in awe of the scorelines and find the enthusiasm fantastic. Have fun at WorldCon :D

While it will be a relief not to have to figure out soccer drills that that U6 set can handle every week, I'm going to miss the games, and delivering the soccer reports. It's been a fun season.

WorldCon will be fun! And so will hanging out in Chicago!

I was thinking of you and Ros and the team while we were at Wembley recently :) And yay for you coaching again next season!

I was thinking of you when I was watching the Bronze medal match. Were you at that one or the Gold medal match?

Definitely yay for coaching next season. I'm going to do the coaching course and do some research and everything!

We were at the gold medal match, but your gals arrived at the end for the medal presentation ceremony which was cool (and took quite a while, heh!).

Go, team!

Congratulations for making it through the season as coach, and finding your enthusiasm increasing! *g* That's really awesome.

Enjoy Chicago and WorldCon! It should all be fabulous!

As with when I first started teaching, I'm feeling a bit of imposter's syndrome with the coaching (you think I know what I'm talking about?!) but that's starting to fade and I'm definitely enjoying it. Now I want to get better.

Have just got back from my first WorldCon panel, on gender and sexuality, which was fine, but would have been better if certain attendees hadn't felt the urge to randomly slam fanfic and slash at random moments. Grrr. But otherwise, Chicago is a blast, as always, and there should be some fab panels in the coming days.

Have fun at WorldCon! Say hi to Chicago for me (I know Due South wasn't actually filmed there, but I associate it with it!)

And yay for coaching - that seems to have worked out so well and it'll be so great for all those kids to have that opportunity *g*

I shall indeed say hi to Chicago for you. (I always sort of forget DS is supposed to be in Chicago because it's so obviously Toronto to me I always spend half my time trying to figure out where they're filming.)

The coaching did work out well. The kids have enjoyed it, and the parents have been supportive too, so that's also a good thing.

You did such a great job this season! Good for you and your team. :)

Have a great time at WorldCon!

See you soon!

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2012-08-31 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely!

My schedule is still ridiculously ill-defined. Are you in the dealer's room? I can pop by

I'm on Twitter as paulinezed if you want to contact me that way.

And BTW, were you in the Gender panel tonight? Because if you were, and were the one bringing up fanfic and slash in a non-insulting way, go you! And if not, there's someone who looks like you who did, and go them!

I need to post this somewhere before I forget it and it gets lost in the depths of the internet! Because a while ago we spoke about the serious lack of How/Rob-pics, remember? But loooooooooook what I've found! It's a beautiful Howard-and-Rob-are-having-fun picture! (Unfortunately it's not the best quality, but oh well...)

Also: pizza AND a trophy? Brilliant! Who needs a trophy when they can have pizza? Jokes aside - welllllllll done, you! Remember how you felt when you started this? And now look at you - Coach Zed! \o/

Hope you're having fun in Chicago!!

That pic is Too Much Fun, and is going straight in the TT file.

Got back from Chicago last night, at which point I was knackered. We all had a brilliant time. The con was fun and inspiring, and Chicago is just a great city with plenty for all of us to do.

I'm working at home today (took Ros in to her first day of Grade 1 this morning!) but shall try and send you a proper email tonight.
