The Final Soccer Report

It's been a crazy weekend, what with the film fest and the Sweetie's mom visiting and me trying to finish the Pros BB story, but the important thing for this post is that it was supposed to be our team's final game yesterday. Supposed to be, because it was bucketing down rain and since the kids are still wee and it wasn't exactly warm out, the club ended up cancelling it. It would have been nice to see the kids play one last time, but I don't think anyone would have enjoyed it much. (The U7s and up still had to play, so that'll be us next year.)

Game or not, the kids still had to get their pizza and trophies, so they moved that to today. It was a much nicer day--cool, but sunny--and it was nice to see the kids one last time. And the parents were all really complimentary about my coaching, so that was a nice end to it all. The parents this year were a uniformly nice supportive bunch, which as a newbie coach I appreciated.

Also, I got a plaque. Awww.

I'm glad I took the plunge this year, and I'm actually looking forward to coaching again next year. (I'm planning on reading some coaching books and taking the Ontario Soccer Association coaching course and everything!) It'll be interesting dealing with an all girl team. (They split out the boys and girls at the U7 level in our club.)

So, in conclusion, yay footie!

Yay for the plaque and the appreciation that goes with it! How does next year work - do you automatically 'move up' the age range with Ros?

The club runs almost entirely on parent volunteers, and they're always going begging for coaches. So if you volunteer to coach, you generally end up coaching your kid's team. So yeah, I'll move up to Ros' next age range. Which is why I figure I need to start upping my game and get some real coaching ideas. At some point I'll need to move beyond simple dribbling and shooting drills and the occasional game of red light green light.

Yay, indeed! Congratulations on the well-deserved appreciation! (We can tell, from how you've written here, just how good a coach you were and are!!) It's cool to have stumbled upon something you really enjoy doing and want to delve into.

Good luck with the BB finalizing!

I don't know that I was good, but I was definitely organized. *g* (A couple of parents told me they wished I'd been coaching their other kid's team for exactly that reason. Which was a nice ego boost.) And yeah, it's definitely been enjoyable, if sometimes stressful.

Go, you! And Yay Team!

Congrats on the successful year for both you and Ros. Surprised your season goes so late. The one here is over in early August.

Woot plaque! That's awesome, so nice that they appreciate your effort (and we've been hearing a lot round here recently, with the Olympics and all, about how vital volunteers for kids sports are) and yay for pizza too *g*
