Snow Day!

Toronto got hit with a yucky, if not too horrible, snow storm today, and I got an actual snow day off work. (The organization I work for really walks the walk when it comes to considering employee's welfare, and this is just one of the bonuses.)

It never got crazy bad, but we've had constant, fine-grained blowing snow from very, very early in the morning until, well, now, really. Have a pic:

That's the main street we live near, and it's usually pretty solid traffic. People were wisely mostly staying off the roads. I was out and about a few times--taking Ros to school and running a few errands--and even on foot it was brutal getting around. It would barely look like it was snowing because the snow was so fine, but we were accumulating at least a few inches an hour. Which adds up.

And tonight, the Sweetie and I have tickets to see Point Break (as part of a Keanu Reeves retrospective at the Lightbox, no less) so we're going to have to brave the weather once more. At least I'll get surfing Keanu as a reward for my foolhardiness. Point Break is one of my very favourite films of all-time--yes, really; it's why I was so happy when Kathryn Bigelow got the Oscar for The Hurt Locker--and the Sweetie's never seen it, so we've been looking forward to this for months.

I've been enjoying seeing the piccies from Toronto and Toronto adjacent friends. *g*

I hope you manage to make it out to your film.

I'm sure we'll make it out. We're Canadians! A little snow ain't gonna stop us. ;-)

A snow day *and* Keanu??? I too adore Point Blank - and watching all the sun and surf in the midst of that winter wonderland should feel good!

I'm glad I'm not the only Keanu/Point Break aficionado out there. *g* The sun and surf was indeed a great thing, and the Sweetie even agreed with me that it's a fab film. It was also groovy that they'd moved it to the second biggest theatre in the complex and it was packed! And they announced that Keanu's going to do video introductions for the rest of the series--he's shooting in Beijing right now--so I may try and see a few more.

Eeep, snow! Saw the weather in North America/Canada on the news and hoped you were OK so glad to see it was more picturesque than 'The Day After Tomorrow' although, yep, getting about in snow is a total pain. And yay for warming!Keanu *g* I have never seen 'Point Break' but I know I ought to - from what friends have said it sounds good! *g*

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2013-02-09 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I was picturesque and annoying, but nowhere near The Day After Tomorrow proportions. Though we're not getting the car out of the laneway any time soon.

You must see Point Break! It's pretty fantastic. It's got a relentless pace and some pretty fantastic filmmaking, not to mention a nice homoerotic subtext between Keanu and Patrick Swayze. (It's about the only film I totally love Swayze in. I never could abide Ghost, and I couldn't be arsed to see Dirty Dancing.)

I know, I really must *g* Dirty Dancing is actually not bad - one of my friends is ferociously obsessed and I've seen it two or three times (in a reciprocal I've shown her a *lot* of Take That arrangement!) and it's got more going on than I expected around the straightforward romance. I mean, I'm not raving about it, but it's not bad at all.

It does sound like Dirty Dancing has some interesting class stuff going on, but not quite enough to make me seek it out. But if I stumble across it some day... *g*

The snow looks so pretty, but I don't envy the shovelling it bit. I hope you manage the film okay - brave souls!

Fortunately for me, the Sweetie is designated shovelling guy for our house. And he was trading back and forth with the neighbours to keep the sidewalk cleared. But he's definitely hurting the morning.

We made the film fine, and so did a ton of other people! You can't keep Toronto cinephiles away from their Keanu. *g*

Oh, I don't envy you all that snow...

But "Point Break" on the big screen, on the other hand, I *love* that film! One of my faves, fabulous stuff!

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2013-02-10 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
The snow is a big, fat pain, though we've certainly had it worse. It just means we've taken public transit everywhere.

Point Break is fab, isn't it! You are clearly a person of wonderful taste. *g*

[identity profile] sooguy.livejournal.com 2013-02-19 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
I can't believe the big guy has never seen it. I had advance screening passes to that when it came out. He must have been in Waterloo or somewhere on Co-op when that film came out or I'm sure I would have taken him to see it.

I love it too.

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2013-02-19 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Well, he's seen it now. And fortunately he liked it, or there might have been consequences. *g*

It is still a fantastic film.
