Footie: Game Three

Another soccer evening, with it threatening rain and then turning out pretty nicely if a tad cool.

The girls played really well again. We got two new volunteers in goal, both of whom did fantastically in spite of the fact that one nearly bottled it just as the game was starting. (That was one of our smallest players and our most sensitive--she started crying the first day when they were taking turns kicking on goal.) And we won our third in a row! The score was 0 - 2 this time, and yet again the scoring was spread around. And Ros is showing a good amount of grit and good defensive awareness.

Every week is showing what a deep team we have. Tonight there was one line up that I thought had the potential to get killed since none of our four strongest players was on it, but they totally held their own.

You're on a roll, congrats on doing so well! Sounds like everyone is enjoying themselves.

In other footie-related news: have you seen the new Markie pics of the Soccer Aid training? The hair! Love seeing him all driven and happy.

So far, the games have been lots of fun. And as a bonus I've run into a couple of parents from last year's team who've complimented my coaching, so that's nice.

I did see the Mark pics! They made my day this morning. Love the floppy hair being back, and was amused to see the bandaged fingers. I wonder what he did himself this time? ;-)

That’s great. Must be nice, growing into the coaching role more each year!

Haha I was wondering the same thing. It’s usually something clumsy and adorable he did ;) Luckily not his leg again, so hopefully he’ll be able to show what he’s really made of this year! ;)

Well, it's nice not to be panicking every week about the upcoming game. ;-)

I bet it's something like changing a lightbulb again, the adorable, clumsy goof. And yes, let's hope there's not another leg injury and he plays like we know he can. (I've got to find a download source for the game. Let me know if you find one, would you?)

Seen the game yet? I watched the ITV stream (thanks to VPN) and after all that waiting for Mark to come on, the stream froze during a Markie-action! Thankfully it's uploaded on YouTube already. And all the pics are oh so lovely!

I've seen the pre-show, though there was disappointingly no Markie there except him scoring nicely during the penalty kicks. I was poking around last night looking for a torrent. Will have to check YouTube, though it'll be tomorrow after our soccer game at least before I have time to watch.

I'm hoping for some good Markie action!

I remember someone uploading a good quality torrent not too long after the game in 2012, so maybe better luck tomorrow. The quality on YouTube isn’t very good.
Ok, no spoilers then ;) (Not that there’s too much to spoil.. But for the Markie action you could just skip to 70 minutes into the match.)

Good luck with your fourth game!

Your team is doing really well! Good for them (and you!).

We're having fun, which is the best part. Though I'm starting to worry what'll happen the first time we lose... :-/

It's just occurred to me, with your mention of weather - I think of soccer as a winter sport (along with rugby), but it must be a summer sport for you, yes? I can't imagine you playing it in the snow I assume you get.

Delighted that everyone is involved and enjoying it.

There are winter soccer leagues here, but they're either held under domes (our local high school puts its field under a dome in the winter) or in gyms with an indoor ball.

Outdoor soccer is mostly a summer thing, though the schools tend to play in the fall. I used to hate soccer in school, because by November you still had games outside and it was usually freaking cold in your little gym uniforms. Though as an adult I played a regular weekly pick up game with friends for years, and we'd play until the snow flew. One year with not too much snow we had an outdoor game on New Year's Day.
