Footie: Game Five (or Not)

We were supposed to play tonight at 6:30, but a wicked thunderstorm hit just as we were about to get the warm-up started. The club were initially telling us to wait it out, but it got ugly very fast, so the other coach and I quickly decided to call it quits and send everyone home.

Someone put up a YouTube video of the storm coming in:

Unfortunately, it was my turn to bring the nets. When we picked them up, the bloke in charge told us to leave them on the field if it rained because the late game would still be played. We weren't sure that was going to happen, so the Sweetie, Ros and I stayed at the field in our car in case we needed to bring them back. After half an hour, the head coach showed up to check on the situation. She went back to the office to discuss calling the late games, then called us to confirm they were cancelling all the games.

Which meant that the Sweetie and I ended up standing in a soggy field with me holding umbrellas while the Sweetie packed up the inflatable nets, the sky bucketed down and lightning struck around us.

Hopefully this is our one big storm for the season. (A girl can hope, right?)

Please tell me that is a time-lapse video!

But seriously, my god, that's impressive. Yeah, I hope that's the only one for the season, too. Fingers crossed.

Yeah, it's time lapse. Man, can you imagine if it wasn't? It would be the apocalypse!

Eeek! I'm glad everyone was sensible about it, but eek for having to stay and wait and then deal with the rain and lightning while taking care of the nets.

We have a storm track stuck over us and so are having storms about every 36 hours right now. Last night's came in at about 3:00. Rivers are overflowing. It's crazy.

Sometimes it sucks to be responsible. ;-)

Good luck with your storms. That sounds even worse than what we got. At least we didn't get flooding.

What an amazing video! There's no way I'd want to be out in a storm like that, kudos to you for staying and packing up the nets.

We spent the worst of it huddled in the car. But it was still no fun to be in.

Eeep! I hope you had a nice hot bath and some tea after that!

Well, I dried off with a nice fluffy towel and got into my jammies. Then cuddled with the Sweetie and watched Mad Men after Ros went to bed. So all in all, it was a nice ending to a crazy night.

Good grief. That doesn't sound safe at all! A nasty storm it seems.

We probably should have waited for the lightning to completely stop, but hey! We didn't get hit by lightning while our daughter watched from the car, so it was win-win!
