Home Again

Back from SHareCon and in the thick of things once again, but I had such a wonderful time. It was all hanging out with old friends and meeting new people, watching vids, watching episodes, watching the slashiest bits of all the episodes, going to panels, going for meals and just generally having a fabulous time. [livejournal.com profile] flamingoslim throws the best cons.

One of the best things, apart from the people, who are all fab, was being reminded just how much I love, love, LOVE Starsky & Hutch. It was one of the first shows that pinged my budding slasher's heart when I was ten. I can still remember watching The Fix for the first time and realizing that there was something going on that was making me feel all tingly all over. And the boys still do that to me.

I'm realistic enough to know I'm just not going to have time for a full write up of the weekend, but here are a few random things that came out of the con:

  • I have an actual, concrete and do-able idea for a Starsky & Hutch story! \o/

  • I have promised [livejournal.com profile] dorinda and [livejournal.com profile] msmoat to finally make the I Spy vid I've wanted to do for, oh, years and years.

  • [livejournal.com profile] msmoat informed me that a Canadian company has put out a box of the complete Equalizer. How did I not know this?! I can finally watch Splinters again!

  • I've had a mashup of "Don't Give Up on Us Baby" and "Discovery Channel" stuck in my head for two days now. I blame Flamingo. And David Soul.

Also, you have energized me to get off my arse and finally sort out my website and vids. When I have time. Which will probably be sometime the next millenium, but at least I really know it needs to be done now.

Haha. I know the feeling. I have to add download links and another form of hosting myself. The work is never done. /o\

Sounds like a wonderful con! Glad you had a good time. And yes, I share your feelings for S&H but have never felt even remotely inspired to write them. I think it might be because they're so quintessentially American and I don't believe I could get inside their heads!

    [identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2014-10-22 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a wonderful con! I've been feeling a bit of fannish ennui of late, so it was definitely a good thing.

I adore S&H, but I've only ever written three stories in the fandom, and two of those were really, really short. They don't often talk to me, but I can occasionally coax them into letting me know what they think. (The fandom I doubt I'll ever write in is I Spy. Love the show, love the characters, but I can never quite think the way they talk.)

BTW, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!! I totally meant to get a post for you up yesterday, but life and exhaustion intervened. I hope you had a lovely day.

    [identity profile] moth2fic.livejournal.com 2014-10-22 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I did have a lovely day - will post eventually! I feel guilty about all the good wishes I received because I've been very remiss about birthdays lately due to being offline/AWOL/etc.

Glad you had such a good time! The VCon on LJ was pretty interesting but wouldn't beat the real thing.
A mashup of "Don't Give Up on Us Baby" and "Discovery Channel" sounds pretty awesome. Or awful, could go either way. *g*

    [identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2014-10-22 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
The con has re-energized my fannish squee, which was badly needed. And it definitely looked like everyone was having fun with the VCON.

Awesome, awful, who can tell? ;-)

    [identity profile] msmoat.livejournal.com 2014-10-22 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It was fabulous, wasn't it? I have been so lucky with cons in the last couple of months. *g* Seriously, I do feel like I've been reminded that, yes, this is where I belong!

Yay for stories! Shall we both submit stories for the advent calendar?

    Yay for I Spy vid!!!!!!

Visual Entertainment is the name of that Canadian company. *g*

That vid show was such a revelation to me. Not only all the vids I had no idea were being produced, and the quality of them, but all the reminders about why I love this show. I want to write!

    [identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2014-10-22 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It was completely fabulous. There is definitely something to be said for single-fandom cons. (With the occasion diversion into other fandoms we love, of course.)

We should definitely both submit to the advent calendar. I'm already mulling over the shape of the story in my head and plan on putting down actual words once I've got a bit of time in front of a computer.

Definitely yay for I Spy vid! I can't wait to get started.

I found Visual Entertainment online last night. They're in Toronto! I feel like driving to their offices and saying "here's my money, now give me my Mickey!" (BTW, I was telling the Sweetie about the full box of Equalizer coming out, and he said as little Equalizer as he'd watched, he always knew Mickey was the best thing in it. He is a wise man. Mostly. *g*)

I was definitely pleased with the quality of the new vids coming out of S&H. Not to mention it just made me want to watch tons of eps.

Oh I am so glad it went well - and you deserve to be able to lean back and relax after Bistocon!

S&H isn't my thing, but I can relate to everything you say here: old friends, new friends, vids, eps, panels, people, and constant chat that is all, always, about a shared love.

    Sounds like a great con.

    [identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2014-10-22 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It was nice not to have to do anything but enjoy the con. (Not that it wasn't fun putting on BistoCon, but I think I'm still mentally getting back my fannish energy.)

The essentials of the con experience are the same, no matter what the fandom or topic. And this was a very good con, helped no doubt by the fact that it was run and attended by some really lovely people.

I'm so glad you came! It was a fabulous weekend and I do love a good wallow in fandom.

That is a scary mashup. LOL! Those gorillas singing to each other! *snirk*

    [identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2014-10-22 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you came, too! And brought Lou!

Those gorillas singing to each other! *snirk*

Okay, now you've made it worse!

BTW, I kept meaning to tell you all weekend that my S/H story idea is a direct result of your angels illos in the con zine. I saw them and immediately went ohhh. Ohhhh. Thank you!

    [identity profile] sc-fossil.livejournal.com 2014-10-22 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)

Oh, wow, I'm honored! Thank you! I love wings so it was easy for me to see them as angels. The colored portraits are beautiful. The zine had to be black and white.

They would make awesome warrior angels. ::she says, rubbing her hands with glee::

Wait, you've got those pics in colour??!!!!! Can I see? Pretty, pretty, pretty please?

I'll be able to post the pictures in six months for everybody to enjoy. :)

I've had a mashup of "Don't Give Up on Us Baby" and "Discovery Channel" stuck in my head for two days now. This sounds brilliant... and painful. :D

    It's...something, allright. ;-)

It was just what I needed!

I'm hoping to make it to Sharcon next year! And did you say they are releasing a box set of the Equaluzer! Is it already out?

    [identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2014-10-23 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
SHareCon is every two years, assuming Flamingo goes ahead with another one, so 2016 is when you should plan for. And you should totally go! It's a fun con.

The super-duper Equalizer box is available here. And there's a box with just the episodes and no extras for 20 bucks less.

A new I Spy vid!! Absolutely great!!

I am thinking to learn making vids for some time now and I bought a new book about IMovie some months ago, because I now have IMovie on my pc. Well... the book is really nicely written, but it's a bit intimidating, too. I got the impression that it is a lot of *really* hard work to do a vid.

Do you already know what kind of vid it will be? A dark one or a light one?

    [identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2014-10-23 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It'll take me a while, but I'm hoping to get moving on it soon. It's going to be very light, but considering my one other I Spy vid is dark it'll all even out in the end.

Good luck with the vidding! I made my first vid in iMovie, so it's possible, but it's not the easiest program in some ways. (I quickly moved to Final Cut.) Rather than using a book, I'd suggest looking for video tutorials on YouTube. It's far easier to understand what's being done when you can see it happening. Then once you have the basics down, you can use the book for reference. And it's all about the organization. Figure out what episodes you want to clip, how you want to organize your clips, how you want to structure the vid. Vidding favours the obsessive compulsive. *g*

    [identity profile] potztausend.livejournal.com 2014-10-23 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Since I made tons of I Spy and Professionals screencaps I have a bit of experience in organizing them and finding themes even after a really long time. I already collected screencaps for vid topics back then.

Your suggestion of watching tutorials is perfect for my technical cluelessness, I never thought of it! It will help me a lot to understand the basics, and I can move on from that. Thanks for nudging me in the right direction ;-)

Your second one will be a light one? I am rather curious about it. Since your dark one is a *really* good vid, I'm sure the light one will be perfect, too!

    [identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2014-10-23 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Your experience organizing screen caps will put you in good stead. You'll use the same mental skill set.

I'm hoping the vid idea works out, but I'm not going to jinx myself and reveal what the song is quite yet. Fingers crossed!
