Footie, Semi-Final Heartbreak!

We had a really great game this morning. The girls played really well together, and managed to score the first goal, a really pretty one that came from a lovely pass and went right over their goalkeeper's head. Unfortunately, we had a hand ball in the crease that gave them a penalty kick they managed convert on, tying us up.

We didn't score for the rest of the game, but neither did they, so we went to penalty kicks. (Just try to pick 5 kickers when you're surrounded by 14 girls who all want to take a kick. Fortunately, the Sweetie ran interference while I came up with a list.)

Our goalkeeper rocked, but so did theirs, and after the first round we were tied again, 1 penalty kick apiece. That put us in sudden death, and unfortunately their first kicker scored, and ours didn't, so that was the end of our season.

But considering the team we were playing was the top of our division, and they beat their opponents by three or four all their other games, I think we did a fab job.

I'm already planning my strategy for next year!

Ack, going out on penalties sounds sadly familiar - although with the England men it's traditionally the quarter-finals :) Sounds exciting though - hope the kicker who didn't convert wasn't too upset. And yes, the team did brilliantly to get so far and acquit themselves so well - good for them, and good for you!

At least we made it to the semis! And the kicker who didn't convert was the only one who did convert in the first round of penalties, so she was more chuffed than upset. They all did really well.

Oh, bummer, but good on your all for putting on such a grand show! No shame at all in losing through sudden death. Especially given the team you were playing. Well done all of you!

They did really well! I was very proud of them all.

So close! And - speaking from experience - that's a horrible way to bow out. Still your girls did well to hold the top team to a draw and they should be proud of that. Onwards and upwards for next year.

Considering we'd lost to that team twice in the regular season, I was happy that we kept them to a tie in regular play. Anything else was gravy. Though, yeah, it would have been nice to make the finals. We would have got bigger trophies, for one thing. *g*

Hard going to go out like that, but definitely loads to be proud of for you all *g*

It was honestly pleased that we held them to a tie. Especially since they'd killed all their opposition in the first round, scoring 4 and 5 points to nil or 1. The girls did a really good job.

You are such a trooper contemplating next year already! I think the team did great.

I wouldn't do it if I didn't have fun. When I wasn't having my heart leap out of my chest with anxiety, that is. *g*

BTW, happy belated birthday! I've barely been near a computer, so I didn't get around to posting birthday greetings.
