Progress!

It's almost exactly two weeks since I injured my shoulder, and I'm finally almost completely pain free and have slept through the night for the last two nights.

The first week was a whole lot of not fun. I was only sleeping for two or three hours at a time before pain woke me up, so I had sleep deprivation on top of the injury. And while the first two days of watching unlimited TV was rather enjoyable, I started to quickly chafe at not being able to physically do much of anything. (Before he left for work, the Sweetie would cut me two pieces of bread for lunch because the mere thought of doing that myself was painful.)

I had to wait six days to get into the fracture clinic, where they just confirmed there was no fracture or dislocation and wrote me a script for physio. And then I couldn't get into my physio until this past Tuesday, but he was much more helpful. He's got me doing gentle exercises to keep the shoulder's mobility up, and then has one of their techs do laser and electricity treatments on the shoulder.

I made it back to work this week, and got back to my first Taekwando class last Saturday. The first class I mostly observed, but when we were put in groups to do forms, my group picked one of the easier forms and then they all did it one-handed with me in a show of solidarity, which was lovely of them.

It's the Family Day long weekend, and I'm taking it easy and giving the shoulder a last bit of complete rest before I try a more complete training schedule next week. The trick being doing enough to build up my shoulder strength again, but not so much that I irritate the injury.

But it is marvellous to be able to do things around the house without pain constantly making my check my movements.

So nice that the class showed solidarity and did the moves one- handed!

Glad you feel better.

A big part of the reason I've gotten into the Taekwando so seriously is that it's a nice school with seriously nice people. The reaction to my injury has just emphasized this.

Thanks!

There's nothing worse than pain or discomfort not allowing you to sleep, night after night, and the shoulder's a particularly bad thing to reckon with so I'm very pleased that you're making some progress with it.

And what a lovely group to show solidarity with you! And your partner, so thoughtful.

You don't realize how much your shoulder does until it's injured. I'm very glad sleeping is no longer a problem.

The group were definitely awesome. And the Sweetie rocks.

I'm glad to hear you are almost pain free, that's excellent news!

It's a huge relief!

Very pleased you're feeling better.

Your taekwondo group sounds awesome.

Me, too. And the Taekwando group are a great bunch of people. Very glad I can start getting back to training.

Sorry it's been so bad, and hugely glad to hear things are improving and you do have useful help from physio now. How lovely of your class to act in solidarity! *g*

*hugs*

The first week was the worst. It's given me new respect for the sort of pain you experience. Hips have to be even harder to isolate than shoulders.

The class were very sweet to do forms like I had to. Empathy training is part of our black belt cycle, another reason I love our school.

So happy to hear you're doing better!! And very impressed that you're already getting back into it. Go you!

I'm very relieved. The fracture clinic doctor said it could take up to 3 months to heal, with had me a bit down. But it's already so much better.

Getting back into training isn't optional if I want to stay on track for the black belt this year. Which I do, if only because I don't want to have to do this level of training again next year. I'll already have to do early morning Saturday classes if Ros does her black belt next year.

:) Yeah, I can see why you might not want to wait.

Best of luck with retraining your shoulder and getting your black belt. May you recover quickly and completely. :)

I was thinking about your poor shoulder the other day and hoping it was getting better. Thank goodness you can sleep easier now. I've never been able to get back to sleeping comfortably on my right side - luckily I prefer lying on my left!

Love the solidarity of your Taekwondo group. There's a fannfic in there, I'm sure of it...

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2016-02-14 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It's so much better. Being able to sleep is such a relief. I've had to sleep on my back, which isn't my preferred mode, but is better for my back.

Hmmm, shall have to consider the fanfic possibilities there. *g*

I'm so glad you're feeling better and that your shoulder is progressing. As you say, you will have to find a balance between building up strength and not overdoing things, but it sounds as if everybody is ready to help you!

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2016-02-14 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It's such a relief to finally feel able to do things again. I'm playing a bit with range of motion, and may even try to do some basic forms this weekend.

The challenge, I think, will be holding back from sparring. That's what I love doing most, but has the greatest possibility of re-injuring my shoulder. Ah well, I can't even carry the bag with my sparring gear yet. ;-)

Yay! Progress is a very good thing.

*And* you'll be ready for Pros wrestling in August, too. ;-)

(And really, your class sounds like an awesome group of people.)

I'm very relieved at the progress I've made. And will totally be ready for Pros wrestling in August. Just with no shoulder rolls. *g*

My class is definitely an awesome bunch of people. They make the training fun.

I'm glad you're doing better and that was really nice of your class. :D

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2016-02-16 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I seem to be over the worst of it. Yay! And also yay for training with nice people.

Really glad to hear that you are feeling better and I hope the physio continues to help ♥

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2016-02-18 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
The shoulder is definitely coming along. Would be smashing if I hadn't come down with a nasty cold this week. If it's not one thing...

[identity profile] norfolkdumpling.livejournal.com 2016-02-17 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
So glad to hear you're feeling much better Petal :)

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2016-02-18 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Thumbs up on the shoulder. Thumbs down on the cold that hit me this week. Stoopid cold. :(
