Hallowe'en Fun

Popping my head up for this year's Hallowe'en festivities.

Ros wanted to carve our two pumpkins herself. She kept one a secret. It turned out to be a Cap shield pumpkin she carved just for her mom. Awwwww.

Ros' costume this year was a Greek goddess. When pressed on which Greek goddess, she finally decided she was Athena. Here she is between the Cap pumpkin and one of our Chinese lions. Ros puts the masks on our lions every Hallowe'en.

And here's the skull pumpkin Ros carved. She's getting pretty good at this pumpkin carving lark.

It's been a bit of a Marvel week in the Zed household. I talked the Sweetie into watching the first Cap with me this weekend. (He's a hardcore Marvel comics fan, but only lukewarm on the movies.) This led to this exchange.

Sweetie: Hey, that's Dum Dum Dugan. I recognize the hat. He's a Howling Commando.
Me: Yeah, all the Howling Commandos are in it. Falsworth, Gabe Jones, Jim Morita.
Sweetie: Wait, you know the names of the Howling Commandos?
Me: Of course. They're important in the whole Cap mythos.
Sweetie: Oh my god, I can't believe you know the names of the Howling Commandos.
Me: Heh.

All that reading a shedload of Stucky fic is paying off if I can match his Marvel geekiness. *g*

Friday, we're going to see the first show of Doctor Strange. (I'm taking the day off. The Sweetie is on his last week off before starting a new job.) This should be interesting. The Sweetie is a huge Strange fan, but can't stand Benedict Cumberbatch. I really want to see it with him because I suspect his head might explode. That, or he'll finally admit Cumberbatch is a good actor. *g*

Ros' pumpkin is awesome! she did an amazing job \o/

I hope the Sweetie's head doesn't actually explode (or if it does, you at least don't end up with brains on you - those might be hard to get out of your clothes)

I usually help more with the pumpkins, but apart from helping clean up some edges, she did it all herself this year. I was impressed!

Hopefully the head exploding will be more metaphorical than literal. Brains are so messy. *g*

Ros is really clever; how sweet of her to do that for you!

Heh, you scored yourself some serious geek points with the sweetie there! *g*

I loved Dr Strange and am wanting to see it again. Of course it helps that I'm a huge BC fan!

She gets major brownie points for the Cap pumpkin.

I don't know if I scored geek points of horrified the Sweetie with the level of my Cap obession. *g*

Good to know you loved Strange. I can't wait!

I think BC is a good actor but I made a decision some time ago to ignore all Marvel offerings because life is short...

Congratulations to Ros on the pumpkin carving.

Ignoring Marvel movies is a sane life choice. Forget the movies and TV shows themselves, there is a ridiculous amount of fanfic out there, and a decent amount of it is really good.

I shall pass on the congratulations. \o/

Yes, I've read some of the fic and of course I know some of the background because one can't help knowing, living on the internet...

Off topic but still re reading, a friend gave me Martin Roach's 'TAKE THAT now and then' (because she had two copies) but I haven't opened it - is it any good?

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2016-11-01 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't read that TT book. I've got Take That - Take One and Take Two, Gary's autobiography, and Robbie's Feel, and Take That In Private, all excellent. (Take One, Two and In Private read like fanfic, straight from the boys' mouths.) And Take That's Greatest Hits, which is interviews surrounding their original singles with some great 90's pictures. I've also got a couple of the interview books Piers Morgan put together back in the day, and they're a mish mash of the truth and the tissue of lies that their manager surrounded them with. I rather gave up on the books after that.

The GoodReads reviews on that one seem to indicate it uses a lot of old interviews as sources and is decent if not exemplary. You'll have to let me know how it is.

Nice pumpkins! Ros did a fine job. Better than I can do, that's for sure.

Having good pumpkin carving tools makes all the difference. You can do way more detail than with a regular kitchen knife.

Aw, Ros! That is so sweet. And so fannish. Well done that girl *g*

I am seeing Dr Strange this weekend, hopefully. Very excited! My only expectation is to see Mads Mikkelsen in THAT eyeliner, so I feel the only way is up! Will be interested to hear what you think.

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2016-11-03 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
She looks out for her mum! Though so far she's only fannish when it comes to Gilmore Girls, which she is now on her third pass through. And she has allowed that ST-TOS is okay.

Mikkelsen's character shares a name with a kitten my roommates and I had in uni--one of them did Latin in high school and Caecilius was a character in her Latin reader--so this is amusing me no end.

Even if it ends up being dodgy, it has a heck of a cast. (Chewitel Ejiofor!)

The pumpkins are fabulous and Ros looks wonderful in her Athena costume.

I'm off to see Doctor Strange this weekend as well and am quietly hopeful I will enjoy it so hope you all do as well.

It was a fun Hallowe'en.

Just got back from Strange. Enjoyed it without being blown away by it. (It's no Winter Soldier. *g*) The Sweetie got a few geek moments out of it, but remains unconvinced about this Cumberbatch bloke. ::sigh::
