Yuletide Goodies

I got not one, but TWO Yuletide stories this year, both for the movie Sunshine, and both are fab. (Why, yes, Chris Evans is in that. Why do you ask? :D )

My main gift was Dipping Toward the Light.
Relationships: Robert Capa/Mace
Summary: Capa seemed to be pressing his hand to the center of his chest as he moved around the med unit. Sympathy pains? Overcome with emotions? Maybe he cares about you, Mace’s addled brain supplied. Maybe he wanted Capa to care about him.

It's an AU that saves half the crew of the Icarus II, and has Mace figuring out how attracted he is to Capa in the wake of him nearly dying. Lots of competence porn, great banter and the growing connection between Mace and Capa is perfectly portrayed.

The treat was Out of the Dead Zone
Relationships: Robert Capa/Mace
Summary: Capa’d rubbed him the wrong way from day one, no, from minute one of their acquaintance.

For some reason, Mace thought of this on the third morning he woke up in the oxygen garden.

It's another AU that diverges early enough from canon to save everyone (yay!) and has not only very hot sex scenes (always a good thing) but a very satisfying post-story future for Capa and Mace.


I got a very nice comment from the recipient of the Yuletide story I wrote, which is officially the only story for it's canon on AO3. The source is old enough and obscure enough that I don't expect it'll ever get many hits, but it was a very satisfying story to write. Also, it got me writing again, which has been an absolute slog for me this year, so that's a good thing.

Aren't they great! I was struggling with what to request this year (for me, Yuletide is more about getting to write something interesting than getting a gift fic myself) but I'm glad I picked Sunshine.

Two Yuletide stories - cool!
I was surprised and delighted that I received two stories as well.
I'm very curious about your story and am looking forward to reading it, once it's revealed.
The recipient of the story I wrote was very pleased. Like you, I doubt many people will ever read my story (it has fewer than ten fanworks on AO3), but it was a great experience writing it, and I hope it gets me back into writing again.

Here's the irony - I've said many times over the years I don't read RPF, but it turns out what I meant was, I don't read RPF about people who are still alive. If not, though, RPF turns into historical fiction.
My two gifts were: "Ford v Ferrari" (I wanted fic for those characters the moment the final credits rolled), and "Tombstone", a favorite small fandom of mine since the movie came out in the 90s.

Yeah, my avoidance of RPF lasted until I ran out of Aragorn/Boromir stories to read back in my LotR heyday and moved on to Sean Bean/Viggo Mortensen fic. I now never say never about any trope.

That said, I'm totally going to go read your gifts! I loved Ford v. Ferrari, and even offered it this year. And I've also loved Tombstone since it came out, and have even written a story in it in a pre-AO3 Yuletide year.
