Drabble: Ephemera 3

Author: P.R. Zed
Fandom: Blake's 7
Notes: Part of the Ephemera series. Set ater the fourth season episode Orbit, as things are starting to go really horribly awry. (This one's pretty much just for my own amusement, because really, who's still in B7 these days.)

Nothing was forever, that's what Vila’s old mum had always said. Depend on something too much and someone will take it away from you, be it the Federation or the bully down the road. And Vila had followed her advice, not counted on anything or anyone.

So why did this hurt so badly?

Because he had counted on one thing: that Avon meant safety. Avon had berated him, mocked him, but he'd always defended him. And now he'd tried to kill Vila as well.

Hands shaking, Vila opened the bottle of precious alcohol and sought a blessed, if temporary, oblivion.

because really, who's still in B7 these days.) I am. Blake's 7, the series that brightened my adolescent days. :-)

I loved this one, as I did the other two Ephemerae but had until now not commented on. I love your take on Vila's character, how you paint his youth in just a few words and how his trust in Avon has been destroyed.
Lovely.
And thank you for reminding me of my love for B7 again; it would appear some things /are/ forever.

I am.

Yay! So nice to see someone else who loves the show. As for the drabble, I knew I had to write about Vila. He was always my favourite character, and sadly unappreciated by most, I thought.

I *don't* know B7, but I'm still enjoying this series. I liked the cadence to this line: Avon had berated him, mocked him, but he'd always defended him. Keep going....

If you have a high tolerance for low budget British television SF--it makes Doctor Who looks like it's got a big budget--B7 is worth a look. In the best episodes, the writing is fab and the characters and situations are intriguingly dark. Plus the ending is extraordinary.

Keep going...

Shall do. The last three are pretty much done, though I'm starting to futz with them.
