Drabble: Ephemera 6

Author: P.R. Zed
Fandom: Starsky & Hutch
Notes: Part of the Ephemera series. A very 4th season S&H drabble.

Hutch explodes out of the court house with the judge's words still ricocheting around his mind. Insufficient evidence. Procedural inconsistencies. Case dismissed.

He kicks a hapless mailbox in his path and wonders how he can continue to do this job when his faith in the system is daily sucked away.

At least he can always depend on Starsky's stubborn belief that justice will be done.

He looks up to see concerned blue eyes staring at him from a face that seems older and less certain than it should. And Hutch wonders, has Starsky lost faith in justice, or in him?

Awesome. *Exactly* the way I remember their interactions--cynic and idealist, so when there's a fleeting doubt in the idealist...it causes a fleeting doubt in the cynic. Nicely done.

What I also like is that they can trade the idealist and cynic roles back and forth, depending on the situation.

Exactly. Depending on who they were speaking with, or what they were talking about, their relationship was never static. You captured the flavor of that interplay so well.

Yes, YES! That's a perfect summation of their emotional states during the time. Ahhh, so good.

And your icon is an awesome summing up of those last few episodes of the season. Awww.

This whole series is wonderful! Even when I was a kid, I got that they loved each other. Not till later did I understand. Starsky would never lose faith in his partner.

Merci.

I love Starsky's loyalty, but even he has moments of doubt. (See Starsky vs. Hutch for some serious shaking of the partnership.) But you're right, long term, he's always going to be there for Hutch.
