Snow and Book Launchings

I braved the snowy, blowy weather we're getting hit with today to attend the book launch of [livejournal.com profile] matociquala's Hammered. The launch was held at Bakka, Toronto's oldest, okay, Toronto's only SF and Fantasy book store. It was great to meet Elizabeth and chat briefly, and I trudged home through the snow, warm in the knowledge that I had a signed copy of Hammered ready to read.

I may even start it tonight. I just started Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, but I haven't met Susanna Clarke. Plus, I think I'm in the mood for a kick ass female character just at the moment.

I devoured Hammered, it was a great read and left me wanting more. Sadly, I've stalled out about a third of the way through JS&MN. I'm just having trouble with the style. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0553587501/qid=1106436754/sr=2-1/ref=pd_ka_b_2_1/102-9354639-9062542)

I think I'll probably start Hammered tonight. Looks like exactly what I'm in the mood for at the moment.

The style of JS&MN is what attracted me to it--I love big 19th century novels, not to mention the Napoleonic era--but it's so freaking huge. I'm afraid I'll stall out on it out of sheer inertia.
