Off to London

I can't believe we leave for London on Friday. I have too much to do before then (including making more headway on my new vid for MediaWest, and not forgetting the laundry), but I'm so looking forward to the trip. I get to hook up with [livejournal.com profile] bluespirit_star, as well as a friend from my university days who has taken up residence in the U.K.

But, as always, my main reason for going over is the theatre.

Les Miserables
Not a first choice of mine, but the trip is for my mother-in-law, and neither she nor the Big Guy have seen a West End version of this war horse. Plus, it's the only big musical I still have some affection for.

Henry IV, Parts 1 and 2
The real reason I pushed to take the trip now. Not only is Part 1 probably my fave play by Shakespeare, but Matthew Macfadyen (Tom in MI5/Spooks) is playing Hal and Michael Gambon is playing Falstaff. Should be awesome.

Julius Caesar
Never a favourite of mine (I had the world's worst English teacher in grade nine when we studied this) but I couldn't resist Simon Russell Beale as Cassius. Oh, and Ralph Fiennes plays Mark Antony.

Someone Who'll Watch Over Me
A play about three hostages in Beirut, my chief reason for picking this one was the opportunity to see Aiden Gillen (QAF UK) and Jonny Lee Miller onstage.

Theatre of Blood
Jim Broadbent (Topsy Turvy) stars in what looks to be a quite mad theatrical version of a Vincent Price movie from the '70s. And it's at the National.

The Cosmonaut's Last Message...
Experimental stuff from the Donmar Warehouse. My chief attraction here is Michael Pennington, who was a co-founder and star of the English Shakespeare Company and one of my fave theatre dudes.

The Producers
Another one for the mother-in-law, but I'm curious to see it. We had tickets to the Toronto run, but the show closed early and we didn't get to go.

Where the heck is that quote from? Was he in the Sweeney?

And I shall indeed have a good time and say hi to Penny for you.

Heh. I've so got to see the Bullshitters one of these days. You bringing it to ZCon?
