I Crack Me Up

I make my living training people how to use all sorts of software applications at a publishing house. Which means I'm always creating training docs. Which is not always the most exciting occupation in the world.

So, in other words, I need to find ways to amuse myself.

Like this:

It is my fondest hope that I'll eventually run across someone who gets the joke. Although since I've been using David Starsky and Ken Hutchinson as examples in one of my other courses for years without anyone saying anything, it's a long shot.

The people you train are obviously very stupid. I got it straight away *vbg*

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, they're lawyers. And English grads. Who probably all think pop culture is beneath them. But still, Starsky and Hutch, people!

I'll cut them slack if they don't get the Pros reference. It never really played in Canada.

[identity profile] thefannishwaldo.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I get it and I'm not even *in* that fandom. :)

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Because you are brilliant. *g*

[identity profile] thefannishwaldo.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! Well, thank you very much! :)

[identity profile] agt-spooky.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! That's freaking brilliant. :-)

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
One does what one can. *g*

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee!

[identity profile] heliophile-oxon.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Love it! *bg*

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Why aren't all you guys in my classes? *g*

[identity profile] draycevixen.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)

Ah yes and the "hotmail" addy is just the crowning touch. *g*

When we were in Grad school the OH had a side job ghost writing computer text books. His boss called him in to his office one day and pointed out that the OH's multiple choice questions at the end of every chapter were riddled with double entendre... the OH hadn't even noticed he was doing it. <--- *looks back at last sentence* *sniggers*

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Originally I had our actual business addy, but then I realized hotmail was way more fun.

Back in my grad school days, a friend and I were put in charge of writing the final exam for the public speaking course we were teaching. (Everyone in Communication Arts had to teach public speaking.) He was also a fan and we deliberately riddled it with fannish references. *g*

My last job I wrote a spec for a program using Jack Harkness as the sample name. Two people got it.

And when an updated records system got rolled out last year and the manual used John Sheppard, I met the IT guy who wrote it in the lift and said, So, Stargate Atlantis fan, huh? and he was like, no, I used the name of a friend from my church group. *sigh*

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
You rock!

Your IT guy? Not so much.

BTW, I've been corresponding with someone else who vidded Dark Knight. She couldn't crack the bloody copy protection either, so she used a dl'd copy. I'm currently on the hunt for one. And I've started laying out the structure of the vid. (Go me!)

[identity profile] sarren.livejournal.com 2009-06-20 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay you!!!! Yay Jim and Bruce!!!! god I love fandom ♥

[identity profile] sarren.livejournal.com 2009-06-20 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, that is an awesome I icon. I am guessing Bodie has just put his fist into a car door. He still makes MY top ten sexiest fictional men list.

[identity profile] norfolkdumpling.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh - please come train at our place - you'd make life so much more interesting. *g*

I think you were quite restrained though...I'd have been tempted to muck about with the emails. 'sunshine@hotmail.com', 'theoldman@hotmail.com', angelfish@hotmail.com'. *is evil*

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Train in England? In a heartbeat if they'd have me. *g*

As for your sample emails.... ::snort:: You are an evil genius.

[identity profile] schnuffi.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe you got more luck this time *G*

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
We have a number of Brits on staff. One of them must have watched Pros at some point.

[identity profile] runriggers.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
CUTE! And no one has commented on the names yet!!! Sigh!!

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
To be fair, this one just went out today. But since no one has picked up on Starsky and Hutch years later I'm not holding out much hope.

[identity profile] runriggers.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I wouldn't assume that too many are going to get the connection either

Other names to use: James Ellison and Blair Sandburg

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I've used Jim and Blair before. (And have sneakily named my daughters stuffed black panther and wolf Jim and Blair, too. She's young enough that I can get away with it.)

[identity profile] callistosh65.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Brilliant! I use their names in test questions with my students all the time.

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2009-06-19 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Because you are clever and charming. *g*

[identity profile] sc-fossil.livejournal.com 2009-06-18 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
*snirk* Cute! At least you keep yourself entertained.

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2009-06-19 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
What good is a job if you can't have a little fun with it.

[identity profile] bluespirit-star.livejournal.com 2009-06-19 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
LOL I love it! *g*
I love the detail of having Bodie use all his initials in his email addy too.

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2009-06-19 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
Of course Bodie would use all his initials. *g*

[identity profile] bluespirit-star.livejournal.com 2009-06-19 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
He totally would & Ray would be shaking his head at him (but smiling fondly). *g*
