Centurion and Michael Fassbender Pic Spam

The annual Toronto After Dark film fest is on at the moment, which means plenty of genre film from around the world. Tonight they showed a movie I've been dying to see ever since the Sweetie sent me a link to the trailer, lo, these many months ago: Centurion.

Michael Fassbender stars as a member of the 9th Roman Legion that disappeared whilst fighting the Picts. Let us pause for a moment to admire Fassbender looking all bloody and angsty. (Is it wrong that I find guys who've had the snot kicked out of them kind of hot?)

The film was almost everything I'd hoped for (though the fights could have been better shot). And a large part of the attraction is Fassbender's...performance. (What? He's a really good actor. Really!)

Here he is bound, shirtless, and being chased down by Pict warriors. Mmmm, shirtless.

I've been growing rather fond of Fassbender of late. He was one of the best things in Inglourious Basterds

He clearly broods nicely.

He's nicely photogenic whilst portraying angst.

And he can be a bit of a mad, scruffy bastard.

Clearly, he's just my type.

Tomorrow, I'm back at the fest for a screening of Black Death, with one of my all-time faves, the Bean.

Oooooh, nice. I was just watching a trailer for this movie online today! I don't know why I hadn't already heard of it, but now I feel ready. *rubs hands together*

It's lovely, in a gory, bloody, soldiers chopping the hell out of each other sort of way. And it's got a heck of a cast besides the aforementioned Mr. Fassbender.

IT'S LIKE THEY KNOW ME. \o/

Me too!

I've always thought he was rather lovely but then I've always been attracted to that sort of colouring in men as much as anything. *g*

I think he's a good actor too although he's been in some criminally bad things. I couldn't keep watching Hex even for him.

He's not quite my usual type, but the acting ability goes a long way to helping that. (I adored him in Hunger, which is not the sort of film one uses in a pic spam.)

The willingness to go shirtless doesn't hurt either.

Well, you do usually go more for the (slender/wiry) blond(ish) types. Marvel at my ability to describe something beyond a shadow of a doubt, go on, marvel... *is punchy* *g*

I really don't know why he bothers to wear a shirt at all...

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2010-08-19 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Wiry, definitely. Blond-ish, possibly, though there are brunets and gingers I'm fond of. A certain sharpness of feature goes a long way as well.

I really don't know why he bothers to wear a shirt at all...

I know! What is he thinking?

Too often have i been let down by romans vs picts, its all mist and mud till someone loses an eye!

[identity profile] draycevixen.livejournal.com 2010-08-19 03:51 am (UTC)(link)

Yes, I have an icon for this too...

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2010-08-19 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
There is definitely mist and mud and the losing of eyes. There's also eye candy, so it all works out in the end.

What fun. I wish I lived near a cool film fest. I got nothing. Thanks, P! Enjoy yourself.

Toronto is the town of film fests. There's one practically every week. And no, I'm not kidding.

Centurion is getting an American release (the trailer is on the Apple site and everything) so you should have a shot at seeing this, should you desire. I'd highly recommend it.

Is it wrong that I find guys who've had the snot kicked out of them kind of hot?

nope, it's only right and proper *g*

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2010-08-19 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
And that's why you're awesome. *g*

[identity profile] cluesby4.livejournal.com 2010-08-19 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
This looks wonderful! Will this have a release in the US?

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2010-08-19 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It's definitely coming out in the U.S. There's even a trailer on the Apple site.

[identity profile] cluesby4.livejournal.com 2010-08-19 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! This will be on my list of must see!

[identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com 2010-08-19 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, a movie in my favorite historical setting! Roman Britain! I don't know Fassbender from Adam but I will definitely be seeing this one. :D

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2010-08-20 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
I make no claim for its historical authenticity, but it's definitely a lot of fun.

[identity profile] kelliem.livejournal.com 2010-08-20 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I gave up on expecting historical authenticity in films a loooong time ago. ;D

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2010-08-20 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. I can overlook a variety of flaws if a film gives me a rollicking good time. ;)

[identity profile] saintvic.livejournal.com 2010-08-20 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my he looks rather gorgeous in those pictures *adds film to must see list*.

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2010-08-20 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, he's rather lovely to look at. And the film is quite good, too, so it's win win.

(Using my Sharpe icon, just because. *g*)

[identity profile] saintvic.livejournal.com 2010-08-20 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Using a Sharpe icon is always a good idea.
