Oh, this is great! I'm so glad you took it on! And you really wove both in together. I love all the backstory coming out in little bits. I find it hard to write first person, but you do it so well (and often!) And the sparse dialogue is just right.

I'm so glad you suggested it! It worked surprisingly well. Though it was a bit heart-breaking, all the back story I built up in my head that wouldn't fit in those 1,000 words.

I don't know why, but some stories just need to be first person, and this was one of them.
