Best Birthday Ever!

So today is the day I seriously enter my forties. (41! Who'd 'a thought it?) I decided I'd like a nice relaxing day, so the Sweetie obliged. He made pancakes this morning, and we're going to hit an afternoon matinee of The History Boys, followed by sushi at one of our favourite Japanese restaurants. (It's the one where we had one of our very first dates - ten years ago! - and where I first taught him how to use chopsticks properly.)

And is if I needed further proof that he is in fact the best Sweetie ever, he (and the lovely m. butterfly) got me the best present I could possibly imagine.

It's Boromir's sword! (Sean Bean not included, alas.)

Other women can squee over jewellry. I get all gooey over edged weapons.

And for the Pros fen among you, I've posted a birthday present to myself, a new Pros story, Do You Know What I Know, over at [livejournal.com profile] discoveredinalj. Mellow, but hopefully not maudlin, Bodie and Doyle, and a return of the Doyle family I created in last year's Comfort and Joy trilogy.

A very happy birthday to you. You're obviously a girl after my own heart - I'd prefer a sword to a necklace any day of the week!

I hope you've had a wonderfull afternoon and evening.

Swords are way better than jewellry.

And yeah, it's been a lovely afternoon and evening. Film and sushi. Yum!

Happy Birthday, and what a great present. I used to work near somewhere that sold swords and I spent quite a bit of time eyeing them off!

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Every time I run across someone selling swords, I drool over them for a bit. I've had a prop copy of a Toledo blade for ages, but this sword is truly a thing of beauty.

speaking of Sean Bean, did you know that the version of Caravaggio with him in it is due out the end of January?

Yay!!!!!!

Thanks for the link. It's now been added to my wishlist, all ready to order in the new year.

Yay!

Happy Birthday!!!!!

I'm so glad I checked into LJ today. I've been busy and only just now had the opportunity. I'm happy your day is going swimmingly and that your lad has gifted you with a long, shiny sword. :-) Sounds like a lovely birthday to me. Enjoy!

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
The sword is utterly beautiful. (Yeah, I'm a weird one. But I'm sure you've noticed that. *g*)

And the day has been lovely. Nice and relaxing.

Happy Birthday! You're the coolest 40+ year old I know*.

I was going to post birthday greetings for you in my journal today, but it seems so much more appropriate here.

That is a pretty awesome present and so totally you. I am surprised he didn't commission a life-sized wax statute of Boromir. Oh, wait I've gone and ruined your Xmas surprise!!!

Hard to believe 10 years have gone by so quickly for the two of you.

If I had time tonight I would watch a P-esque movie in your honour. Many Happy Returns. I'll be sure to give your sweetie your B-day present when I see him later this week.

*Pssst, all the rest of the cool people I know are still in their 30s

Hey, I know a few other cool forty-somethings.

And yeah, the present totally rocks. It's utterly gorgeous. (Don't tell Don, but I could totally dress him up like Boromir. I've now got the sword and the vambraces. Not that I'd ever do that. *g*)

And yeah, I can't believe we've been together ten years. Doesn't seem that long at all. Which I suppose is a good thing.

Happy Birthday! I hope that this coming year is filled with satisfying and good things. What a delightful present you received - and what a delightful present you gave. Thank you.

It's possibly the best present I've ever gotten. But then I just love swords.

Thanks for the good wishes.

Gorgeous.

You are soooooo lucky.

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
It is a beautiful piece of craftmanship.

And I'm totally lucky I've got a guy who'll indulge me in a fondness for swords.

Fantastic present there, P. He's the tops.

Happy Birthday, too.

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
It's amazing. (You'll have to visit and check it out in person.) And yeah, the big guy is wonderful.

It was definitely a happy birthday.

I so owe you an email. Shall try and respond tomorrow. This holiday lark was supposed to be relaxing but it's not working out that way.

Sorry I'm late but I'm so glad that you had such a wonderful day!
Many happy returns!!!
*hugs*

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! (I totally missed your birthday this year, I think, so I you'll have to forgive me that. It's been a nutty year.)

*hugs back*

[identity profile] bluespirit-star.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
No problem at all. There wasn't much to miss to be honest. My birthday fell a couple of weeks after we lost Dad so it was pretty quiet.
*hugs*

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I was very sorry to hear about your father.

*big hugs*

[identity profile] bluespirit-star.livejournal.com 2006-12-20 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, P.
He was a wonderful, wonderful man.

[identity profile] nakeisha.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a pressie and a half.

I'm glad you had a lovely day and you do indeed have a wonderful sweetie.

[identity profile] przed.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a hand and a half sword for someone my size, so definitely a pressie and a half. *g*

Thanks for the good thoughts.
