R.I.P. Peter O'Toole

Very sad today to hear that Peter O'Toole has passed away. He's a performer I adore, not least because he's the star of my very favourite movie of all time, Lawrence of Arabia.

Lawrence on the train

A couple of years ago I put together a Lawrence Pic Spam with all the reasons I love O'Toole in the film. Those reasons still hold true.

"Lawrence" is my all time favorite movie too. I'm going to look at your pic spam right now.

Wonderful pic spam! Do you mind if I link to it?

Absolutely feel free to link to it. It was definitely a labour of love.

Thanks - it was beautifully done.

Your Lawrence picspam was the reason I went out and bought the dvd. Ashamed to admit I haven't yet watched it though.
RIP Peter O'Toole.

I'm glad I could inspire you to buy the DVD, now you really must watch it. It's an amazing film, and O'Toole is transcendent in it.

I've always loved that movie and Peter O' Toole. My other two favorites of his are Becket and The Lion in Winter.O'Toole was the definitive Henry II.

Those two are wonderful, too. I'm also fond of his version of Mr. Chips, and My Favourite Year is far too much fun.

I was sorry when I heard the news too. For some reason, I don't remember seeing Lawrence of Arabia. In all seriousness, does it begin with a scene involving him on a motorbike, zooming along? (Perhaps there's a crash?) That's the only thing that comes to mind.

I have read your picspam, and wow, clearly I need to add this to the list of films to watch. Very soon. Lovely work.

Lawrence does indeed start with Lawrence on a motorbike, and then crashing it, so you must have seen at least the beginning at some point.

It's a completely fantastic film, and you definitely should watch it. (If you were near Toronto, I'd drag you to it the next time it plays our last 70 mmm film space, as it seems to every year or so.)

Such a beautiful man - I fell in love with his voice when I was tiny.

Your pic spam is gorgeous. And stupidly, I know I've seen the film, but I don't recall a single thing about it. Obviously I need to get the DVD.

I first saw Lawrence when I was 8. It totally went over my head, but I knew the film, and the actor, were something special.

You definitely should see the film again. There's so much that's amazing about it, starting with O'Toole.

I've just this minute popped it into my Amazon basket *g* It's stupid because I know I saw it as a child, plus living in Dorset, there are so many Lawrence associations locally you'd have thought I'd have had the film waved at me dozens of times over the years. I swear I have a bucket on my head.

Want to watch the movie again!

I just love Peter O'Toole and Lawrence, and now I HAVE to watch the movie again! It's a favorite of mine. Thanks for the wonderful pic spam, loved it too.

Bad months, this month and the last: we lost Lewis Collins, Nelson Mandela and now Peter O'Toole. Very sad, although Lewis' demise is the worst, IMO, because he was definitely too young to die.

Lewis' loss hit me the hardest, but they're all bad.

(I'm also sad about Eleanor Parker, who was fab in Scaramouche, and fantastically bitchy in The Sound of Music. When I was a kid, I liked her Baroness much better than Julie Andrews' Maria, because apparently I liked snark better than sweet. So, no change there. *g*)
