R.I.P. Peter O'Toole
Dec. 15th, 2013 11:37 pmVery sad today to hear that Peter O'Toole has passed away. He's a performer I adore, not least because he's the star of my very favourite movie of all time, Lawrence of Arabia.

A couple of years ago I put together a Lawrence Pic Spam with all the reasons I love O'Toole in the film. Those reasons still hold true.

Date: 2013-12-16 12:27 pm (UTC)I have read your picspam, and wow, clearly I need to add this to the list of films to watch. Very soon. Lovely work.

Date: 2013-12-16 01:37 pm (UTC)It's a completely fantastic film, and you definitely should watch it. (If you were near Toronto, I'd drag you to it the next time it plays our last 70 mmm film space, as it seems to every year or so.)

Your pic spam is gorgeous. And stupidly, I know I've seen the film, but I don't recall a single thing about it. Obviously I need to get the DVD.

Date: 2013-12-16 02:42 pm (UTC)I've just this minute popped it into my Amazon basket *g* It's stupid because I know I saw it as a child, plus living in Dorset, there are so many Lawrence associations locally you'd have thought I'd have had the film waved at me dozens of times over the years. I swear I have a bucket on my head.
Want to watch the movie again!
Date: 2013-12-16 05:55 pm (UTC)Bad months, this month and the last: we lost Lewis Collins, Nelson Mandela and now Peter O'Toole. Very sad, although Lewis' demise is the worst, IMO, because he was definitely too young to die.

Date: 2013-12-16 06:19 pm (UTC)(I'm also sad about Eleanor Parker, who was fab in Scaramouche, and fantastically bitchy in The Sound of Music. When I was a kid, I liked her Baroness much better than Julie Andrews' Maria, because apparently I liked snark better than sweet. So, no change there. *g*)
