Okay, first of all, I'm not going fannish about SGA. Really. I've got no time to keep up with the fandoms I'm active in. I don't need to add a new fandom to the mix. Let alone an uberfandom. So me and the sweetie have been watching and loving first season on Space, but that's all.

But...

I've been thinking about SGA slash pairings.

Mostly because I'm just not seeing the McShep. I know, that's what a lot of you are into, but apart from a few brief flashes, it's just not there in the show for me. And I need it in the show before I'll even touch it. As it were.

Now, McKay/Zelenka? I can totally see in the show. (And thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sithdragn for the lovely icon so I could even think of making this post.) I can't resist a geek, let alone an astrophysics geek. Put two of them together and I am in lurv. Plus, they're just so cute together. So, I'd totally read McKay/Zelenka. If I was getting fannish about the show. Which I'm not.

My sweetie, he's turned into a total Sheppard/Ford kinda guy. (Shhh. He doesn't know that bad things happen to Ford and I'm not about to tell 'im.) He's taken to cheering when Rainbow Sun Francks shows up in the credits and he's rewound an episode at least once to make me watch Sheppard and Ford doing cute things in the background. (I wasn't paying attention to them; I was watching McKay.) I might read the occasional Sheppard/Ford story out of loyalty to the sweetie. If I were getting fannish about the show. Which I'm not.

But (oh no, another but) the sweetie just came up with a completely crack-addled pairing that is intriguing. And messed up. See, I was explaining the genre of partner rape stories and the fact that I'd just run into one that was kinda hot. (Kitty Fisher's Pros story, The Chameleon's Dish, if you're interested.) His initial reaction was shock and dismay.

Sweetie: Why would you read that? That's sick! That's wrong! That's like slashing ::he flails around trying to think of a suitably messed up pairing::... Sheppard and Steve!

We both stop and look at each other. I clutch my head.

Me: That is so very, very wrong.
Sweetie: But it could work.
Me: It could totally work.

Yes, I would read Sheppard slashed with a Wraith.

Just please don't tell me someone's written it.

Hee!
I think I've remained interested in, but not overly fannish for SGA primarily because it's so overwhelmingly Sheppard/McKay -- and the only pair I see, too, is Zelenka/McKay...well, I see see Zelenka/Weir, too, but I digress.

Mostly because I'm just not seeing the McShep.

Amen, sister, amen. My theory is that the pairing came to be when everyone fell for Rodney, and then chose the show's Cute Guy to pair him with. When fans talk about Sheppard, it's almost always about his looks. IMO, Rodney doesn't seem like the kind of guy who'd fall for someone who isn't very similar to himself. He likes when people agree with him, see things on his level, and have things and opinions in common with him. Period. Which isn't to say a relationship with someone who is more against his type couldn't happen, but I can't fathom that it would last long.

For the record, David Nykl (Radek) did an interview where he said Zelenka would be the best marriage for Rodney on the show (I so love David Nykl), but that Rodney loves his work far too much to have a serious relationship with anyone at this point.

So, I'd totally read McKay/Zelenka. If I was getting fannish about the show. Which I'm not.

I can rec a few stories if you're interested. In a completely non-fannish kind of way, of course.

My sweetie, he's turned into a total Sheppard/Ford kinda guy.

Awww. They were my first pairing in the fandom. :)

Just please don't tell me someone's written it.

I could say it hasn't been written, or that there isn't a community dedicated to the pairing, but that would be lying. *g*

*ggg* Sheppard and Steve? That was most certainly written considering the main story archive is named wraithbait.com... but I´m not going to look it up. Nope.
Unsurprisingly I´m a very convinced McKay/Sheppard fan, though both my best rl friends can´t see it. [livejournal.com profile] shampoo_leska is into Beckett/McKay or Beckett/Sheppard and [livejournal.com profile] shirasade ships (that was really a surprise considering she´s such a slasher) Ronon/Teyla and Elisabeth/Sheppard.
Anyway, if you continue your not reading SGA McShep ways, check out [livejournal.com profile] seperis´s stories. I haven´t got a lot of free time, but her stories I do read!

Two words for ya: Sheppard/Beckett.

I'll point you to [livejournal.com profile] johncarsonlist - a searchable database of all the John/Carson fics.

I can also get behind Radek/Rodney. They really are cute together. Someone needs to put McKay in place. :)

And Sheppard/Steve... sigh. Yeah, it happens. *shivers*

I think I love David Nykl too. And feel free to pass on those non-fannish recs. Along with the name of that Sheppard/Wraith community, because I totally have to check it out. Or at least send the link to the Sweetie.

I'm remaining firm in my resolve not to read McShep, because that way lies madness. And way to many damn stories.

I may check out wraithbait.com, though. Because I'm just that kind of a gal.

I'm glad I'm not the only one blind to McShep. Zelenka/Weir is...interesting. (When he's straying into het-land, the Sweetie is convinced of Sheppard/Weir.)

Hmmm, Sheppard/Beckett might be interesting. But I'm really going to have to check out Sheppard/Steve because I am a twisted human being.

re Sheppard/Steve: That's one of those things you have to look at. It's like watching an accident. You know you'll regret it, but you can't not. :)

After that though... :)

Great McKay and Zelenka story by Jane St. Clair. It's gen. (Don't be alarmed. Yes, I do read SGA gen.) You can't read it until you've watched all three parts of Siege, though (don't forget you have the first two or three eps of S2 on that DVD. LMK if you want the rest).

Detox: http://3jane.livejournal.com/493876.html

And I won't vouch for general quality, but here's an archive divided by pairings, then by genre: http://sga.fictionresource.com/fic_index.php

Not that I'm trying to make you fannish about the show. Which you're not...

I'm figuring it's gotta have a high train wreck quotient. Which is part of the appeal, really.

Hey, I'll read the occasional gen piece. Heck, I even write it.

We tried watching the last part of Siege, though, and our DVD player had a little meltdown with it. We're so busy that we may just wait until Season 2 airs on Space. Or I'll break down and watch it on my computer.

(Baseboards were ordered today! Now we have 2 1/2 weeks to paint 3 coats of paint on 150 feet of the suckers. No problem. *gulp*)

Crap. For some reason SGA files fight me like crazy. I don't have any problem with anything else, just SGA. Sorry about that!

Painting, huh? I hate painting so much. Are you doing it in oil or latex? And where are you doing it? In the basement, I guess, eh? I sure hope it's air-conditioned down there.

It's more likely just our DVD player. It's 6 years old and it even pitches a fit with some commercial disks.

We've been doing nothing but painting for the past two months, so I'm getting pretty sick of it. On our paint store's advice, we're doing oil primer with latex for the top coats. In the garage. No A/C, but at least we can keep the doors open and use a fan.
