A year and five months late, I've finally finished my Fandom Trumps Hate 2019 story. I'll be putting up a chapter a day.

The Needs of the One
Chapter 1 of 8
Fandom: Captain America (Movies)
Relationships: James "Bucky" Barnes/Steve Rogers
Characters: James "Bucky" Barnes, Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson (Marvel), Shuri (Marvel), Natasha Romanov (Marvel), Okoye (Marvel)
Additional Tags: 1930s, Brooklyn, Post-Black Panther (2018), Post-Civil War (Marvel), Pre-Serum Steve Rogers, Goat Herder Bucky Barnes, Wakanda (Marvel), Hurt/Comfort, double timeline

Summary:
"I hear your pal is sick again."

Kenny McMannis smirked as he passed by, and honestly it was the smirk as much as the comment that made Bucky grab the jerk's arm and glare at him.

"Who are you talking about, McMannis?" he said, squeezing his arm just a little bit harder than necessary. "Steve?"

"Of course I mean Rogers." McMannis tried to pull his arm out of Bucky's grip, then acted like he didn't care when he couldn't manage it. "You got another sickly runt roommate?"

1938 or 2018, Brooklyn or Wakanda, Bucky Barnes will always be there to look after Steve Rogers.
przed: (Stucky - First Avenger)
So, I saw Endgame, and was inevitably enraged by the way they sidelined Bucky. (Heck, even the Sweetie, after he saw it, was like, "Wow, they really didn't want Bucky in that movie, did they?").

And I have inevitably written a fixit fic.

Full Circle (1128 words)
Fandom: Captain America (Movies), Marvel Cinematic Universe
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: James "Bucky" Barnes/Steve Rogers, Offscreen James "Bucky" Barnes/Peggy Carter/Steve Rogers
Additional Tags: Post-Endgame, Endgame Fix-It, Time Travel

Summary:
The two of them sit on the bench for the longest time, staring out at the shimmering surface of the lake in front of them, a pregnant silence building between them.

Steve is the one who speaks first.

“I saved him,” he says. “I couldn’t save you, but I saved him.”

A big thank you to [personal profile] halotolerant for providing the title and helping make it better.

Day 5

In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them.

How about three each on Tumblr and Twitter...

Tumblr
How to Brooklyn by hansbekhart
An absolutely invaluable series of Tumblr posts for anyone wanting to write historically accurate fic of Steve Rogers in his native borough.

The Stucky Library
A Tumblr feed of Stucky fic recs with a wonderful tagging structure. When I was first dipping my toe into the fandom, this was hugely helpful for finding the really good stuff.

AO3 Feed - Stucky
A Tumblr feed of all newly posted Stucky fic on AO3. So much new fic gets produced in the fandom that this can be a firehose, but I've found some great fic by new-to-me writers here.

Twitter
stuckyfanart
When a lot of artists got forcibly kicked off Tumblr, they migrated to Twitter. This Twitter feed provides a roundup of their art.

incorrectbucko
This feed just cracks me up. Stupid texts between Steve and Bucky.

Sebastian Stan Updates
Wanna know what Seb is up to? This Twitter feed has you covered.

I was dithering, but finally decided to sign up for the [community profile] happystevebingo challenge. (I'm about two-thirds through writing what looks like it's going to be a 50K word Stucky epic, but figured the challenge might give me a few shorter ideas to write as a break.) My card is...interesting.

Happy Steve Bingo
Promposal “Hi, I Got Your Halloween Costume Delivered to Me by Mistake” Kittens Bad Handwriting Allergies
Journal Bad Fashion Sense First Dates Shield Personalized Handshake
High School AU Miscommunication Horoscope Caught in a Tea Party Wearing a Tiara
Wedding Deciduous (Falling Leaves / Trees in Autumn) “Are You Flirting with Me?” “Have Been for the Past Year, Thanks for Noticing.” Pregnancy Dates Get Interrupted
Sharing a Scarf First Time Karaoke Pumpkins Meditation

I'm feeling a bit old to write either Promposal or High School AU, but there's some other fun prompts there.

Note to my muse: It's Happy Steve Bingo. Lay off the angst for a change, would ya!
przed: (Default)
Good: I have a complete first draft of my Stucky Big Bang story done. Nearly 34K words, and I don't think it sucks.

Bad: My original artist defaulted, which the mods apparently didn't catch until I sent them a "hey, I haven't heard from my artist in, like, MONTHS" email.

Good: The mods got me a pinch hit artist.

Good: My copy of the Stucky Not Without You zine finally arrived. And wow, it's as gorgeous as everyone says. Also not so much a zine as a giant, freaking art book. (I'd ordered two copies, one for a friend's birthday, and had it shipped to work, and schlepping the box home on the subway just about took my arm out of my socket.)

Bad: Okay, this isn't so much a bad thing as just a thing, but what with having an international order and a last name beginning with zed, I'll bet I got one of the last zines sent out. I love my last name, but it definitely makes patience a necessity.
przed: (Stucky - First Avenger)
Since it's July 4th, a.k.a. Steve Rogers' birthday, I thought I'd post the link to the two Cap Reverse BB stories I wrote.

Brooklyn Runaways

Fandom: Captain America (Movies)
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: James "Bucky" Barnes/Steve Rogers
Characters: James "Bucky" Barnes, Steve Rogers
Additional Tags: Pre-Serum Steve Rogers, Great Depression
Summary:
"Aw, Stevie, don't be like that." Bucky's voice was muffled by the door, but even given that, it didn't sound right. "Open up."

Steve fumbled with the lock, threw open the door, and there was Bucky, standing in the hallway, a suitcase in his hand and a bruise on one side of his jaw.

"We gotta go, Stevie," he said. "We gotta go now."

When Steve and Bucky get careless, they end up having to run away. But maybe running away will find them the home they've always needed.

I lucked out on the initial claim and got one of my absolute top choices, and lovely piece of art that let me write skinny!Steve and Bucky in the '30s. The artist also did a second piece of art that inspired me to break the smut barrier in my new fandom and write Steve/Bucky sexy tiems, so that was fun.

That was all I was supposed to write, but then a couple of weeks before the final deadline, this lovely piece of art with the Avengers as characters from a Chinese wuxia epic went up for a pinch hit. And no one else claimed it. I hadn't put this one of my list of initial claims because I didn't think I could do it justice. But my insanely optimistic muse suddenly assured me I could get the job done in two weeks. Stupid muse, but I did it, thanks in part to a lovely artist who had lots of ideas for the background of the characters.

Bu they will all have to come together to defeat the fearsome Hydra fighter, the Winter Assassin.

Now I'm going to take a few days break to recover from the stress writing of 10K words in two weeks before I get back to work on my Stucky BB story.

Happy July 4th to all my American friends out there!
przed: (Default)
Since Ros is doing her black belt next year (OMG!) she won't be playing hockey.

I, however, have signed up again for the women's learn to play lessons. I don't even know how this happened, but it turns out I kinda enjoy hockey. Or at least learning hockey skills. I may sign up for league play the year after.

In fannish news, I've got my Cap RBB story finished, formatted and ready to go, and my artist and I have a game plan for posting. My posting date is May 28th, so I'll be able to share the story and the fabulous art that inspired it then.

I've also just crossed the 10,000 word mark for my Stucky BB story, and have finally outlined where this sucker is going. And I've got a decent summary put together ready for the artist claims. There are, apparently, way more writers than artists, but I'm not going to stress about the claims too much. This is a story I want to write whether or not there's art for it. Not that it wouldn't be cool to get claimed.
przed: (Default)
I've got a bunch of longer stories on the go, but I've snuck this short piece into the queue. It's a goofy little sequel to my very first Stucky story, The Altar Boy Act.

Relationships: James "Bucky" Barnes/Steve Rogers
Additional Tags: Post-Captain America: The Winter Soldier, civil war never happened

Ever since Steve got big, it seems like he's been the one saving Bucky, when it used to be the other way around. Steve saved him from regular Nazis a bunch of times. He saved him from Hydra twice. He even saved him from New Jersey. (Fucking Paramus.)

Now, Bucky thinks, it's time for him to save Steve.

Or what happens when a former brainwashed assassin puts his mind to giving his boyfriend the happiness he deserves.
przed: (stucky - tfa)
Yep, more Captain America fic. Which led to this conversation with the Sweetie as we were waiting for Ros to finish volunteering at our martial arts school last night:

Me: I finished another Cap story!
Sweetie: I never thought you would get obsessed with Marvel. And of all the Marvel characters you could get obsessed with, that it's Captain America... ::laughs hysterically::

This is payback for me making fun of his Marvel obsession for, oh, the last twenty years. (I still maintain that the Essential Ant-Man volume is probably not that essential.)

Captain America Finds His Fella (5567 words)

Or what happens when an elderly USO showgirl helps her super hero friend and his boyfriend.
przed: (stucky - tfa)
Another week, another Captain America fic churned out. This is nuts, but I'm just going to go with it.

Captain America Is Out and Proud (5222 words)
Fandom: Captain America (Movies)

Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: James "Bucky" Barnes/Steve Rogers
Characters: James "Bucky" Barnes, Steve Rogers, Original Characters

Or what happens when Steve runs into an old friend from the USO.

A sequel to Captain America Has a Fella
przed: (stucky - tfa)
And here's another Stucky story.

The Stucky writing binge continues unabated. I don't know if I've written this much, this fast since, oh, ever. I'm having a blast.

She's not so sure about working with this Captain America guy, though.

Or how one showgirl finds out there's more to Captain America than meets the eye.
przed: (stucky - tfa)
The Stucky writing binge continues. I think this is officially the most I've written in a short time frame, ever. Apparently these boys have tickled my muse.

Lost and Found - The Soldier's Story (7178 words)

Series: Part 3 of Lost and Found (MCU)
Summary:
The Soldier is kept under control with ice and fire. But what happens when echoes of the past fray the cords of control?
przed: (stucky - tfa)
Two stories posted in two days! But only because I've been waiting for a beta and for time to do the final edits on both stories.

More Stucky, and the second part of the story from yesterday. I don't usually need to use the AO3 archive warning, but I very much did for this story. Proceed with caution.

Lost and Found - Peggy's Story (14313 words)
Fandom: Captain America (Movies)
Warnings: Major Character Death

przed: (bucky barnes - cap america tfa - by mirc)
I've started a Stucky series. High angst, and inspired by this gorgeous art on tumblr.

Lost and Found - Steve's Story (9289 words)
Fandom: Captain America (Movies)
Relationships: James "Bucky" Barnes/Steve Rogers, Background Peggy Carter/Steve Rogers
Series: Part 1 of Lost and Found
Summary:

"Twenty-four, hours," Phillips says. It's just Steve and Phillips in the command tent. Peggy has already spirited Zola off to London to begin interrogation, and the Commandos are waiting outside. "You have twenty-four hours to get back here and on a plane to London. Take twenty-five hours, and I will have you declared AWOL and your star-spangled ass court martialed."

Steve doesn't argue. He knows he's lucky to have even that much time to bring back Bucky.

No, that's not right.

To bring back Bucky's body.
przed: (bucky barnes - cap america tfa - by mirc)
Apparently my subconscious' reaction to the shit show that was last week (including Trump's election, the deaths of both Leonard Cohen and Robert Vaughn, and topping it off, some poor soul jumping in front of my subway train home on Friday) was to finally shake loose a writing idea. And the fandom it decided would be just keen to work on was Captain America.

So here's my very first Stucky story. It's short, snarky, and involves lots of bad language. (I'll no doubt do long and angsty Stucky at some point, but this is not that story.)

The Altar Boy Act (1411 words)
Relationships: James "Bucky" Barnes/Steve Rogers
Summary:

Stark thinks Steve is a prude. Bucky knows better.

I'm about to do something horribly impulsive.

Namely, offering two fandoms for Yuletide where I've seen only limited clips of the source, simply because they star, respectively, Sebastian Stan and Chris Evans.

MCU fandom, you have a lot to answer for.

So, the film fest has been over for dayyyys, and I still haven't had time to write anything up.

This is in part because with soccer over, I foolishly volunteered to be the trainer for Ros' hockey team. Which then turned into me being the trainer *and* the manager of her hockey team. (They can clearly tell new suckers in this league a mile away.) All of which has meant doing an online first aid course and an online Respect in Sport course (a.k.a. the "Don't Be a Jerk" course), and setting up mailing lists and Team Snap accounts and aiiieeee!

It is also in part because in the little spare time I've had left, my brain has now been fully eaten by Captain America Stucky fandom. (So. Much. Fic.)

In between film fest screenings, I not only ducked out to buy the Cap: Civil War disk, I finally broke down and got a Funko Pop Cap bobble head. And ordered a Winter Soldier bobble head to keep him company. And when I told Ros not to tell her dad what I'd done, she promptly stuck this note to our front door*:
ros cap memo-edit.jpg

My daughter is a grass.

(*Note the BistoCon note paper. *g*)
