UNCLE was my main fandom for years. Still consider it homebase in many ways. And there was Blake's 7 before, Lord of the Rings after, and lots of little fandoms in between. (I never completely leave a fandom once I've been involved in it, but just have them trailing behind me.)
I'm surprised, and pleased, you gave The Rake's Descent a try. Though the comparison to Technique rather scares me. *g*
