Adventures in Fannish Parenting

I live in hope that I'm raising a good little fangirl.

Our halls and stairwells are lined with various things--theatre posters, film posters--with pride of place being given to the Jesse McClain's portraits of Aragorn and Boromir. Every time I take Rosalind down a hall, I point out the posters. ("Look, Rosalind. Here's Charles Dance in Coriolanus. And here's Chow Yun Fat in The Killer.")

Well, the last few weeks, every time I get to the Boromir portrait, Rosalind tells me who she thinks it is.

"Da!"

Yep, she thinks Sean Bean's Boromir is her daddy. This is made even funnier by the fact that the Sweetie is, shall we say, not the world's greatest Sean Bean fan. (I've managed to convince him of the brilliance of Viggo Mortensen over the years, but he remains unconvinced about the Bean.)

For the amusement value, mostly mine, here's the visual evidence:

Jesse McClain's Boromir. (The plaque between the two portraits will eventually hold the Boromir's sword that the Sweetie got me for my birthday last year, but I'm waiting till Rosalind is old enough to realize that she shouldn't be playing with edged weapons.)


Daddy! And little girl. Okay, he's a lot less broody than Boromir, but he's got the hair and beard going for him.

I love it! This is just so...perfect on so many levels. *g* What a nice image of her Dad Rosalind has! Can't you just see her pointing out the portrait to people? Heh.

(That reminds me of the cleaning woman who asked my mother if the portrait of Doyle in my study was of her husband. *g*)

Heh. Funnily enough, the Sweetie hates David Wenham/Faramir more than the Bean. (He says he has serial killer eyes. Yeah, I don't see it either.)

Oh God, that's funny - and so flattering, whether your sweetie thinks so or not! My parents sent us the extended DVD version of the first 'Rings' film for Christmas. ( I had the other two, but the first only on VHS). We're planning on watching it tonight, so lots of Boromir/ Rosalind's Da for me today..*g*

That's adorable! And yeah--it's got to be the hair and the beard/moustache. I'm sure she's making that connection.

For what it's worth, tell The Sweetie it could be far worse. At Rosalind's age, my brother had taken to calling our father "Car." My dad was the only one driving, so in my brother's mind, one just seemed to naturally go with the other. :-) It took him the longest time to learn "Daddy."

I'm starting to get a hankering to watch the movies again. Oh, for unlimited time. (Mind you, with the writer's strike on we're almost out of new TV to watch...)
