I'd be less suspicious of the Spock/Uhura relationship if they hadn't displaced most of Spock's emotional connection from Kirk to Uhura. (The movie kept telling me Kirk and Spock were destined to be great friends, but I wasn't seeing it that much. That said, if they can prevent Uhura from just being the girlfriend, it's going to add an interesting dimension to Trek lore. (They also need a much better balance between female and male characters, but that's another axe to grind.)
I didn't see Scotty as that out of line with the original. Scotty frequently was played for laughs in TOS. And weirdly, I didn't have too much trouble with Kirk's gung ho-ness. Kirk always was a cocky bastard, but here we're seeing him before he's been seasoned by experience.
The Sweetie saw it on his own last night and thought it was "all right." Ah well, I knew going in that he wasn't really a Trekkie.
