After a bit of a rough morning, which I mostly put down to lack of sleep for us all, Ros is pretty much her old self. She took a two hour nap, and then happily did a Home Depot and ice cream shop run with us. And ate all her dinner. Looks like she'll actually be able to go back to daycare tomorrow, which I'd pretty much written off.
We totally knew that the fever meant her body was fighting off something, and tried not to over-medicate, but when she kept hitting 104 and getting utterly miserable, it was definitely hard to watch. We're going to keep her on the full run of the anitbiotics just to make sure she's well and truly over whatever it was.
And yes, I love Rescue Me. I started watching it primarily for Dennis Leary, whom I adore. (Sharp, sarcastic and funny as hell is a combination I never get enough of.) But now I am rather fond of the whole firehouse full of nutbars. You're absolutely right that they're toxically dysfunctional and if I was forced to spend any time with any of them, I would quickly resort to a smack round the head, but they're far too much fun to watch. I think part of it is my enduring fascination with guy culture. That's what's kept me interested in Pros for so many year. Partly, it's because they're so far outside of my own Canadian, WASP-y, repressed upbringing that it's like an anthropology project.
And partly, I reckon it's also my recent infatuation with lunkheads in fiction. I use to fall for the talented, smart outsider (Illya, Spock, Holmes), but these days I'm finding more and more that my favourite characters in a lot of shows are the lunkheads: Jayne in Firefly, Titus Pullo in Rome, Casey in Chuck. I have no idea what this says about me.
