And a very pleasant day it was...
Dec. 18th, 2005 01:15 amToday was the day when I finally hit the 4-0. I didn't want an enormous celebration, but I did want to mark the day, so my sweetie and I decided to have a drop in, open house kinda party. Which turned out to be as lovely as I'd hoped.
We spent the morning at the St. Lawrence market getting cheese and olives and strudel and rugolach and various other goodies for the party, then it was back home to prepare and decorate the tree that has been up since last Sunday, but bereft of tinsel and other glittery bits. The guests started arriving around 4 p.m., a combination of friends from university (and I can't believe I've now known most of them for well over 20 years), friends from work and a few select family members. (
sooguy came with his wife and little guy.) Had a wonderful time chatting with everyone, though as usual I didn't get to spend nearly enough with anyone.
My sweetie went above and beyond the call, making sure there were always enough hors d'oeuvres fresh out of the oven and enough wine and beer in everyone's glass. And he went to great trouble to get a cake ordered from the same place that catered our wedding. White chocolate mousse cake. Very yummy, and with a "P" candle. Cool.
After the last guest had left, the sweetie and I decided to end the day by watching the first episode of the Doctor Who story, Mawdryn Undead, which we'd just PVRed from BBC Kids. It was a nice way to end a great day. (I love the Davison Who era, especially the Turlough episodes, though I'd forgotten quite how young and scrawny Turlough is.)
sooguy was the only one present with a digital camera, so I'm hoping to post photographic evidence of the event when he sends me the pic.
Thanks to everyone who sent best wishes for the day. I'll respond to y'all personally tomorrow, but now I must crash before I face plant on my keyboard.
