Just finished my [livejournal.com profile] summer_of_78 story, much to my relief. I've sent it off to my beta (who also came up with a title, yay!) and should get the finished version off to [livejournal.com profile] goodnightlady by tomorrow. Saturday at the latest.

I honestly thought this one was going to kill me. Not because of the story itself (though it ended up being a long sucker) but just because of everything else we've got on at the moment.

Since I got back from MediaWest, and for several weeks before, my typical day has gone as follows:
  • Wake up somewhere between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., far ahead of my alarm. Figure what the heck, I'm awake, and get up. Go upstairs for an hour's writing.
  • Go to work. Deal with all these annoying people who want courses scheduled and questions answered. What do they think, that I'm the training department? Oh, yeah, I am the training department.
  • Get home. Work on the endless landscaping of our backyard until the light goes. (Our yard is tiny, but we've totally ripped it apart and putting it back together is taking forever.)
  • Go inside. Work on prepping our bedroom for painting it this weekend. (Prep has involved ripping off baseboards, moving furniture to the now-painted back bedroom and patching cracks, dents and wackiness in the walls.) Stop when physically exhausted.
  • Go back upstairs to the computer. Think what the heck, I can write a couple of paragraphs. Look up at 1 a.m. and wonder how the heck I've managed to lose the last two hours. Vow to go to bed early tomorrow.
  • Repeat.

Oh, and we've also been hitting the Heroic Grace martial arts film retrospective at Cinematheque about three nights out of four. Which hasn't slowed down all the other stuff.

Wierdly, I never suffered from writer's block on this story. I also didn't do a detailed outline. I had the opening scene, and the final sequence, and I just would start up every day and see where the characters took me. Scary, but kinda fun.
