Footie: Game Five (or Not)
Jun. 18th, 2014 12:31 amWe were supposed to play tonight at 6:30, but a wicked thunderstorm hit just as we were about to get the warm-up started. The club were initially telling us to wait it out, but it got ugly very fast, so the other coach and I quickly decided to call it quits and send everyone home.
Someone put up a YouTube video of the storm coming in:
Unfortunately, it was my turn to bring the nets. When we picked them up, the bloke in charge told us to leave them on the field if it rained because the late game would still be played. We weren't sure that was going to happen, so the Sweetie, Ros and I stayed at the field in our car in case we needed to bring them back. After half an hour, the head coach showed up to check on the situation. She went back to the office to discuss calling the late games, then called us to confirm they were cancelling all the games.
Which meant that the Sweetie and I ended up standing in a soggy field with me holding umbrellas while the Sweetie packed up the inflatable nets, the sky bucketed down and lightning struck around us.
Hopefully this is our one big storm for the season. (A girl can hope, right?)
