I missed last week due to the usual insane busyness of the week, so I thought I'd combine the last two weeks.

To cut to the chase, we lost our last two games. Which breaks our winning streak, but that's probably not the worst thing. The girls were starting to assume we'd win all the time, which is never good. Hopefully this will give them a little boost of energy and ambition.

Last week the weather was really not conducive to soccer. It was hot and humid and none of our girls seemed to have any energy on the field. It also didn't help that my co-coach was on vacation last week. (I'm the strategist; she's the energizer.) Our team tried to put up a fight, but they rolled over us, 5 - 2. Ros was game in goal in the second half, but let three in, including one where she hesitated a little too long planning where to kick after she'd made a save, and one of the other team finally ran up and kicked it in on her. Our goalies are now under orders to keep hold of the ball until they've decided where to throw/kick it.

This week we had a different kind of weather challenge: it was cool and rainy. We were much more on top of our game this week, and the kids all put in a good effort. We've ditched most attempts at playing positions--it wasn't working out, and I checked our coaching information and the club recommends not trying positions until they hit the U11 division, so that's my story and I'm sticking to it--though we did assign one kid each shift in the second half to defence because we had one of our weakest goalkeepers in net. They played their hearts out, and we were keeping it nearly even the whole game, but the other team finally went up a point at the end and we couldn't manage another equalizer. On the Ros front, she nearly managed to score! She's usually far more likely to get the ball away from an attacker and then kick it forward to a teammate, but tonight she took the ball all the way to the other team's goal and nearly had it in. She probably would have if she had a bit more power behind her kick. (We definitely need to work on the kicking.)

The club also put up the make up dates for our rained out dates. And the dates they've picked are lousy! They have us playing one game a week Friday, which is when I just got tickets to see a U20 Women's World Cup game at our pro soccer stadium for me and Ros, and then the Friday after that when we're camping. And my co-coach is also away those two days. We're seeing if we've got enough kids to field a team either day--lots of people head to their cottages Friday afternoons--and then looking for volunteers to run the game. (The Sweetie might take over the day Ros and I are seeing the World Cup game. Or I might try and sell the tickets.)

I've completed my new Pros vid, and tweaked it as much as I think it's going to be tweaked. Yay! Now I've just got to wait for BistoCon to show it.

Having satisfied my vidding muse, my writing muse seems to be talking to me again. I spontaneously started generating ideas for the bloody story I was stuck on for months. It seems to be coming much more easily now. We'll see if that lasts.

Less than a month to BistoCon. Aiiieeee!!!!!
