Today was the end of my second week on the new job. It's going well. The people are still nice, I've got some fun projects to work on, and everyone seems to think I'm pretty okay. (I finally met the last member of our department today, and he told me "Everyone keeps asking me if I've met P, because she's awesome." So that was a nice little ego boost.)

Being the last day of my second week, this was also Pay Day! And I had schemes.

Since my renewed Holmes love continues unabated, I was going to hit our favourite video shop and finally get the complete Jeremy Brett series. (I checked out the store two days ago, and they had it.) And I was going to get a groovy pair of Hunter rubber boots, since I'm sick of wet feet in the spring and fall. Purple ones.

Except they didn't have the boots in my size, and they sold the last Holmes box yesterday. Yesterday! (I should have bought it Wednesday, but I thought I'd be all symbolic and get it on my first pay day. That'll teach me to be cute.)

Ah, well, they're ordering the Holmes box for me, though it may take a few weeks. And I'll be launching a search for the boots. I shoulda got a pair in England.

So apart from not being able to spend the money I'd planned on, things are going pretty well.

It's funny that you mention the Granada series - that has been on my mind recently. I had borrowed some zines (and have been reading online fic) that is obviously this universe, and it's so not the movie-verse that I've really been struggling. It's like two fandoms and I'm not sure I'm that excited about the Granada series yet . . . but it's really the "accepted" SH since the movie is so new and there's just the movie, not the wealth of eps in the series . . . so I'm thinking that I should buy the series as well . . . but I'm really far more drawn to the movie than the series . . .

So, I'm conflicted!

And to stop talking about me, not that I was making any sense, I'm very glad the first two weeks of the new job went well. That's great!

I have the JB series of Sherlock Holmes and he's just fantastic. Well worth the price of admission. Great that the job is chugging along!

Well, I've loved Holmes stories since I was eight, cut my teeth on the Rathbone movies soon after (Rathbone is fab; Nigel Bruce is...not), and totally fell in love with Brett as Holmes when the Granada first aired, way back when. So my vote would be to totally get it.

But it is a completely different animal from the movie.

I love the movie, and they pulled a heck of a lot for it from the stories, but it's a messier version of Holmes. Brett's Holmes is still a bit of a madman, still addicted to cocaine, still can't be bothered with normal social interactions, but he's far more mannered and, well, neat than RDJ.

But when it comes right down to it, I'm pretty much up for trying any interpretation of Holmes. He's one of those characters that's pretty much written into my DNA.

I adore JB's Holmes. Have done since it first aired. I'd been holding off on the DVDs since the picture quality on the first editions they put out were atrocious. (I bought one disk, The Empty House, and the quality was so unacceptable I actually wrote a letter to the distributor.) But they've supposedly remastered the series for the new set, and I'm dying to see them again.

Yay for ego boosts!! Especially in your new job.

Isn't it always the way? Get all excited about having some money to spend on yourself, then find what you want is out of stock. *g*

I'm so glad things are going well for you.

I'm so glad to hear that you're liking your new job so much but boo to failed consumerism.

So, to sum up, that's a Yay-boo! ♥

Burning a hole in your pocket, eh? I'm so pleased the new job is going well - and quite right that people think you are awesome.

Here's to new boots, a new job, and new Holmes to watch!!!

Awww, I hope the Holmes set gets there soon! Then you can celebrate Easter with it, or Second Pay Day, or Everyone Thinks I'm Awesome day. :-)

The ego boo was a nice way to end the week. Especially since said bloke said it quite spontaneously.

The lack of things to spend money on was most frustrating. I've spent the last three months being especially frugal, so I wanted to buy something fun, dammit. Ah well, I'm sure the Holmes box will arrive soon enough.

The job is going well, but a big boo to failed consumerism. (I had plans to watch Brett this weekend. I may just have to break out the crappy copy of The Empty House I have from the first set of DVDs that came out. The video is dire, but I'm at the point where I just don't care.

Is that a Yay-boo, or boo-yay? *g*

I've not spent money on anything frivolous since the lay off. (Okay, except for the trip to England. *g*) I want to be frivolous!

Definitely worth waiting for, but having weighed the advantages of buying it for so long, I WANT IT NOW!

Okay, petulant outburst over. *g*

I like the sound of Everyone Things I'm Awesome day.

I have to say that coming into a position that's newly created puts you in a particularly fab position. No matter what you do, it's better than what they had before: i.e. nothing. So it's win, win all round.

Not that I'm saying I'm not awesome. *g*

Great news that the new job is going well, it sounds like you've relly made an great impression on everyone already as well.

*shakes fist at video shop* This is where I admit that Jeremy Brett is my fav Holmes and always will be. I've enjoyed others but he captures the role prefectly in my opinion. Still they have been reshowing the series here so I can say the box set is well worth the wait.

Fingers crossed the job continues to go well. It's pretty groovy so far.

As for the Holmes issue, while Jude Law is my new gold standard Watson (and I so didn't see that coming) Jeremy Brett is my ultimate Holmes. I've not seen the series much since it was first aired, but I'm now dying to get my grubby paws on the box and watch it again. ::wills video shop to get it in faster::
