Last night was the second of my British genre films, Black Death, starring Eddie Redmayne and Sean Bean. Redmayne plays a young monk torn between the love of a woman and his calling. The monk volunteers to guide a group of soldiers sent by the bishop to investigate a village that has been spared from the plague and is suspected of pagan worship.

The Bean plays the head of the soldiers, of course. I'm sure any physical resemblance he might have in the film to Boromir is entirely intentional.

The film is much more accomplished than Centurion, if far less rollicking, and plays a lot with the moral ambiguity of all of the characters. Every single character does questionable things, and every single character has a reason for doing so, even if the reason isn't always a good one.

Here's the Bean, looking far more cheery than he does at any point in the film.

And here's the Bean with a big sword, brooding and menacing. He does a lot of brooding and menacing in the film. Which isn't a bad thing. He's rather good at it.

And one more shot of the Bean, just for fun.

Sean Bean can be brooding and menacing all the time I reckon, although he does look lovely when he smiles as well. And another one for me to add to my rental list, thank you ♥.

I luv him whether he's brooding or smiling. He does have a lovely smile, though.

I didn't have high expectations for this one, but it's quite good. I think you'll like it.

He doesn't have a lot of screen time, but his role is key to the whole thing. Plus, it's Sean Bean! I'd pretty much watch him read the phone book. *g*

Ooh, Sean Bean! Never heard of this film before, but it looks right up my alley, what with the medieval gear and all. Thanks for the head's up!

Yes... Undead!Boromir rides again! Or rather walks squishily through lots of mud. I'm looking forward to this coming out on dvd.

I was channel-surfing this evening and came across an earlyish Sharpe - reminded me all over again of why I fell in love with him in that first glorious episode. *g*

It was shot last year, and I've been waiting for it to hit our shores ever since. It's really quite good.

He's a much crankier, much more morally ambiguous character than Boromir, but the physical resemblance is amusing.

He is just perfect in Sharpe, even in some of the dodgier episodes. I'm really going to have to carve out some time to re-watch Sharpe this fall or winter.
