It's been a crazy weekend.

One of the Sweetie's former co-workers was getting married on Saturday, so we attended the wedding and half the reception, then piled in the car to drive up to my mom's for the remainder of the weekend.

Sunday, we made a pilgrimmage to the Foley Fall Fair, or at least its midway. When I was growing up, this was by far the biggest of the local fairs, and it was a seriously big deal. The midway had tons of rides and everybody went. Now it's a sad little affair, with a mere handful of rides. Fortunately, the rides are aimed exactly a Ros' age, so she had a great time. And we had a great time watching her.

Today, we visited my 93 year-old aunt, helped my mom with the few last things, and made the drive back home.

Here's some photographic evidence of the weekend.

Ros was completely besotted by the bride at the wedding. She took every opportunity to get as close to her as possible. I think I'm seeing the development of a little girl who plans out her wedding in great detail. Which is pretty hilarious, considering I went out of my way to avoid that.

Ros posing with the bride.

Me and my oldest friend--we've known each other since we were babies!--displaying the evidence of snow cone eating. Whilst we were making our tongues unnatural colours, Ros was discovering cotton candy.

Ros and me on the swing ride. Ros kept dragging me onto this one. (She probably was a bit too small to go on it, really, but it was the sort of midway where they overlook that sort of thing.) When I was a kid, this and the scrambler were my two favourite rides. I still get a kick out of the scrambler, but this thing now pretty much makes me ill. Still, I managed to ride it twice without unfortunate result.

Looks like a great time! Those rides would terrify me!

Great pics too!

The bride may have seemed like a fairy princess to Ros, she certainly looks fascinated by her.
And as the parents of the bride customarily pay for the wedding - start saving! *g*

Oh, you guys look like you were having fun! Sounds like a nice weekend. I had a good one as well. We had a little mini-con here with my two Media roomies and my sister. We watched about a dozen programs and ate. *g*

I think it's a little girl thing, like "omg, one of my dolls came to life." There's this woman in a big formal frock, the likes of which you don't usually see and everyone's paying attention to her and telling her she's beautiful. It's heady stuff to a small child.

I'm just enjoying that you were eating snow cones in coat wearing weather. *g*

LOL - I love the icky-coloured tongues.... you ate that and still went on rides without unfortunate consequences? Wow! ::iz in awe of your innards::

It looks like you and Ros had such a great time! I love Ros' dress for the wedding too - such a classy little lady. *g*

One probably-daft question. What's a 'midway'? I get that it's something to do with a fair, but I've never heard that expression before.

The rides don't scare me, but they are starting to make me feel ever so slightly ill. But it was a good time anyway.

It must have been the fairy princess factor. She was gobsmacked by her, as you can tell by that first picture.

And as the parents of the bride customarily pay for the wedding - start saving!

Oh dear, I hadn't thought of that. Perhaps she'll find a nice Chinese boy. The groom's family pays for the wedding in Chinese culture. *g*

Sounds like a fab time. I'm dying for time to just watch a few things.

I think it's a little girl thing, like "omg, one of my dolls came to life."

That must be exactly it. As much as we fought it, she's right into the whole Disney princess thing. Though we try to counter it as much as possible. (She has a princess dress and a knight's outfit.)

I'm just enjoying that you were eating snow cones in coat wearing weather. *g*

What can I say. We Canadians are a hardy bunch. *g*

The sno cones were yummmmmyyyy, if of a frightening colour. But I think my innards are slightly less cast-iron than they used to be. I'm starting to fear the day when Ros is ready for the really big kids' rides.

It was a lovely day, incredibly windy, but sunny and not too cold. It was supposed to rain all day, so we lucked out.

We all had a great time at the fair.

Ros' fascination with the bride thing is a wee bit frightening, but interesting. That's clearly all nurture or the effects of her friends, 'cause even at that age I wasn't into the whole princess/bride thing.

We picked up Ros' dress at the One of a Kind craft show two years ago. It's lovely isn't it? The designer is a woman who also adopted a little girl from China, and she does lovely Asian-inspired clothes for kids. A bit on the pricey side, but well-made, and we got two years out of this one.

A midway is a traveling bunch of rides and games. They can be found at fall fairs, and sometimes they crop up for a week in a supermarket parking lot. They're always a little seedy--even more so these days it seems--but a bit exciting for all that.

I'm going to try and popularize the blue tongue as a high fashion look. What do you think?
