I had never seen a production with a fully satisfying Lear before. In John Wood's, it was Linus Roache as Edmond and Ralph Fiennes as Edgar who were the standouts. With Nigel Hawthorne, it was the Japanese actor playing his fool who nailed it. But Jacobi was really quite perfect in the role, and it was one of those wonderful casts where there is virtually no weak link. (Well, okay, Cornwall was a weak link, but he was easily ignored.)

I can't wait to see Fiennes' Coriolanus. It has the look of something that will either be a revelation, or a glorious train wreck.
