We played a really tough team tonight, and lost. But at least it was only 0 - 3 when it could have been a serious blow out. We could barely get it away from our net the entire game. One of our best defensive players was complaining that "we just keep playing defense!" But I have so say, our defense mostly held, so go us. Also, Ros got to be in goal again and use her goalie gloves. [livejournal.com profile] soundofthesurf, shall get a pic of her in the gloves soon!

In other news, a week tomorrow we'll be leaving for Chicago where I'll be attending WorldCon, and the Sweetie and Ros will be playing in Chicagoland. I also got Ros her very first con membership. (She's young enough to qualify for the free kid-in-tow membership, and they've got some great kids programs, including a "braid your hair like Princess Leia" panel that I'm betting Ros will love.) So yay all round.

Now, If I can just hammer out the rest of my Pros BB story, I'll be happy. Broke 24K words today, which I'm hoping leaves about 6K to go. Hoping, but not sure, since I've only got a rather vague outline of the final chunk of the story rather than my usual scene breakdown. Fingers crossed...

Awww, don't be too sad! My lads lost last night too - and it was their first play-off match for Champions League Qualification. At home against bloody Kiev. 1-3, with one self-goal by our poor new striker (he was inconsolable after the match, poor sod!). But the fans didn't care at all! No wonder after returning to European football after 16 years - they decided to make this a party no matter what! That's my team! *g*
I love that one of your best defenders was frustrated with defending for safety's sake - good kid, you'll make it far!

And I'm looking so forward to the pic! And also to one of Ros in Princess Leia braids! \o/

Good luck with the Pros BB *g* I'm so excited that it's going to be a great long story to dig into!

And yay for Ros getting to go to a con. I have never been to a con so I look forward to hearing about her experiences (and yours) vicariously! *g*

Have a fabulous time in Chicago.

the great thing here is that it sounds like your team is really learning to work as a team. Erm... I'm still pre-coffee, sense comes later. *g*

I hope you have a fantastic time in Chicago, it's one of my favourite cities.

\o/ for the Big Bang progress.

Oh, sorry to hear about your lads. Especially the self-goal. (Astoundingly, my kids haven't done that this year.) But it's awesome the fans just decided to enjoy it!

Our defender is an awesome kid. Like Ros, he's tiny but determined, and he's always calm and agreeable. (Also, he's half-German, half-Chinese and his name is Wolfgang, which is just too much fun. I love my multi-cultural city!)

I'm going to try and remember the camera next week. Our last game! I'll be sort of sad to see the season over.

I'm approaching this big angsty bit of the Pros BB where Mark plays a prominent role, so it should be fun to write. Of course, I've also started stressing about cocking it up, so that's the not-so-fun part.

If you ever get the chance to go to a con, I highly recommend it. I imagine it's something like the feeling at a TT gig, of being surrounded by your tribe.

Thanks! Shall do. (I love Chicago!)

They're still a bit dodgy on the concept of passing, or, ya know, not trying to get the ball away from your teammates, but they're getting there.

Chicago should be a blast. It's one of my favourite cities too. The one good thing about doing grad school in Wisconsin was that Chicago was only three hours away.

Here's hoping the Big Bang continues to progress. Now that I'm so very near the end, I've got this niggling worm of panic that I'm going to cock up the endgame.

Awww, thanks, but not need to be sorry! It's amazing enough we're able to play CL-qualification - usually all we do is avoiding relegation (and we don't even always succeed in that, mind you!). So basically playing European tournaments, if only for a while, is like the cherry on top of the icing of the cake, when usually all we have is cookies, you know? *g*

Holy Jesus! I'm just trying to picture that little boy and then figure that his name is Wolfgang! Goodness! Wolfgangs usually are bearded, grumpy mid-fifties, wearing socks and sandals and shorts! On the other hand - being half-German and named Wolfgang he's a BORN defender! :D

When does the new season start? And is there no chance to work with your team in between? On a happier note: this will make your Tuesdays significantly less stressful, no? *hugs*

I like the sound of your team more and more. (I love cheering for underdogs who occasionally pull off the big game.)

Wolfgang is an adorable-looking little kid, definitely more Chinese than German, which makes his name even more awesome.

The new season isn't until next May! And then it'll be a whole new team. Next year is the year they split up the boys and girls, so that's going to be interesting. (There actually is an indoor season, but Ros is already so busy during the school year that there's no way we can do it. She wants to add ballet, skating, and Guides into Tae Kwan Do, swimming and Mandarin lessons, so some hard decisions are going to have to be made. And soon!)

Ah, you'd love us! We are the underdog and we love it!

Good for him - with a name like that you better be adorable-looking...lol!

*scratches head* Wasn't there someone somewhere in a basement working on a time machine? I think Ros might need it just as much as you! *goes to see what happened to that slightly confused looking lad in the cellar*

Hey, good for holding out the blow-out on the soccer field. Losses are tough, but it sounds like they fought to the last, so that's terrific.

Yay for Chicago and WorldCon! I hope you all have a wonderful time!

Heh. I know how those "vague outline" things can go... *g* Good luck! At least you're in the home stretch!

They're all giving it their best shot now, which is lovely to see.

Chicago and WorldCon should be a blast. There will also be the visiting of my cousin and her family and some friends, so it should be a packed, fun time.

"Vague outlines" give you the chance for the thrill of discovery. Or the agony of not knowing what the f*ck they're going to do next. Hard to say which way this one's going to go. :-/

Hooray for underdogs!

You need to get that slightly confused looking lad back to working on that time machine. We all desperately need it!

Nothing more important in football than defence! Even the best teams have scraggy patches, but I hope the kids get a great big win soon, they deserve it!

...a "braid your hair like Princess Leia" panel...

I am SO jealous of Ros right now. XD

Well done you on your BB fic! I don't know how you manage it - I keep staring at my TT one in horror and just shaking my head at it... that, and my stupid brain keeps giving my inspiration for two other fics that are not my BB fic. Jeez, thanks brain. :P

I was always a defender, so I'm all about defence. If we end on a win next week, I'll be ecstatic, but even if we don't it's been a (mostly) fun season.

The kids panels look like a hoot. Can't wait to take her.

I'm just happy that my TT BB is done and awaiting beta! I have no idea how that happened. I'm also starting to mull over TT Christmas story ideas because my brain is also apparently stupid and not concentrating on what it needs to. But I'm hoping I get the Pros BB fic done this week, because I can then in good conscience sign up to do a vid for the TT BB without potentially losing my mind.

Thanks! It should be a blast. I'd be happier with the word count if I hadn't stalled out due to extreme busyness the last couple of days. Aiiieeeee.

World Con

Going to be my first and hopefully not my last time visiting Chicago this year. We got both kids paid memberships, mainly so we could make use of the free babysitting that comes as part of the paid membership.

Look forward to seeing the three of you there!
