March Madness has snuck up on me this year, so it's time to break out the Bucky icon.

On Thursday, Wisconsin took out their first round opponent, American University, 75 to 35. (I only remembered to check the schedule after the game was over, so I didn't get to see it. Not that a rout like that is usually much fun to watch.)

Their next game is tonight, and CBS is actually broadcasting it, yay! But unfortunately, it's going up against what has become my Saturday night ritual with Ros, watching Hockey Night in Canada. (How I've raised a hockey-loving kid, I'll never know. It's one sport I'm not terribly keen on, but I've become a Montreal Canadiens fan in defence because a) it pisses off Toronto Maple Leafs fans, b) I really like their defenceman, P.K. Subban, who is from Toronto and one of the first visible minorities to play in the NHL, and c) they're Viggo Mortensen's team. ) So it looks like I'll be PVR-ing the Wisconsin game so the little girl can watch her hockey.

To complete our sports day viewing, I turned on the Premier League broadcast this morning, and Ros decided she wanted to watch the game with me. We watched Chelsea trounce Arsenal, 6 - 0, so not an awesome game to watch, but I'm heartened that Ros enjoyed it. I'm hoping she'll want to go to a Toronto F.C. game this year. (I really have to pick a new English team to follow, since I'm sure Sheffield U. will get back to the Premier League about the time hell freezes over.)

Ros has good taste in sports! while I don't know much about the Habs as a team, PK Subban is awesome, and I've long adored Danny Briere, so I fully support your choice of teams (and the reasons for said choice seem sound to me)

I grew up in the Spurs supporting part of London, back in the days of yore where you supported your local team no question about it. So, despite not really being interested at all in broadcast sports I still root for Spurs to this day. MG is the same, but with Washington. *g*

I could have done without the hockey obsession--I'm more of a hoops and footie gal--but Subban is pretty awesome.

Ros is annoyed that tonight is a Leafs - Habs face off, so I'm going to be rooting directly against her. (Our deal is I root for the Leafs if the Habs aren't playing.)

My problem with picking a Premier league team is I don't have any obvious choices, except maybe Sunderland. (My dad spent a decade in Newcastle before immigrating to Canada.) But they're on the cusp of relegation and I've already gone through that with the Blades. I was rooting for Man City on the grounds that they're not Man U (who I hate as much as my baseball-loving mom hates the Yankees) but now that they're owned by a bazillionaire and have the money to buy talent they're not as much fun as when they were scrappy underdogs. Ah well, maybe I'll just stick a pin in the middle of the standings and see where it lands...

To be clear, I wasn't commenting on your choices so much as taking the opportunity to laugh at myself and how these things stick with us. *g* I was going to type that I don't really follow professional sports and then found I HAD to mention Spurs.

Oh, I know you weren't commenting on my choices. I was just venting my usual frustration about having no personal connection for picking an English team. (My mom's people came from Cornwall, for pete's sake, hardly a hotbed of footie teams. *g*)

Hmmmm... people in Devon always used to follow Exeter or Torquay or if they were looking for a "bigger" team Swindon or Bristol but I'm not so sure about Cornwall.
