Footie: Game Sixteen
Aug. 27th, 2014 10:59 pmHere it is, the last regular season footie post of the year.
It was a bit hot and humid for the game, but our team still had lots of energy, and we had eleven kids turn up, which is just enough for two full lines. And the girls were fantastic!
We were playing the second team in the standings, who also happened to be the team that kicked our goalie in the makeup game I missed. (I'm not positive, but I think their coach was the bloke who was in charge of the really nasty team who kept trying to take our girls out last year. And our head coach showed up halfway through the game to give him a talking to for letting one of his parents bully a ref into changing a score earlier in the season.) They had some good players (including our best player from last year's team) but our girls really stepped up their playing and kept the ball in their end for a majority of the game.
The final score was 0 - 4 for us, and it was really heartening to me that our four goals were scored by four different girls. It's also been awesome watching one of our girls who was really not into the game at the start of the season become an absolute tiger in defence. And Ros had another good game, getting stuck in and making some good plays in front of the net.
We've finished the season in the number one slot, which is totally down to the girls playing their hearts out. And now we've just got the cup weekend in two weeks before soccer is done for another year.
