Okay, here's the less-flip reply.

The makers of Starsky & Hutch obviously really cared about the source material they were using. The costumes are pulled directly from the show, down to the shoelaces. They've copied shots, frame for frame, from certain episodes. Ben Stiller has managed to perfectly copy the way Paul Michael Glaser moves. And there's even narrative nods to a number of episodes. Such an obvious affection for the source goes a long way to helping me forgive the fact that they also made the film a spoof.

My impression of I Spy, on the other hand, is that they took the title and the fact that one star was black and another white, and threw everything else out the window. Add in the fact that I Spy is a fairly serious show that was truly ground-breaking in its portrayal of race on American television, and I have absolutely no interest in the project.
