And away we go...
May. 26th, 2004 07:27 pmTomorrow morning I leave for MediaWest, where I'll be enjoying much fannish fun in the company of the usual gang, and the newbies who are brave enough to join our merry band.
I'm on three panels: a Man from U.N.C.L.E. one about the rehabilitation of Napoleon Solo in fanfic; an MI-5 (Spooks) one that I volunteered for on a lark because I love the show; and a Pros one, because I've never sat on a Pros panel before, so what the heck.
I'm also premiering a new U.N.C.L.E. vid (which I'll post here next week, for those who care) as well as showing a few of my older ones.
Oh, and in my zine-writing persona, I've been nominated for a couple of Fan Qs: one for an U.N.C.L.E. story, The Prodigal's Return, and one for a Wild, Wild West story, The Night of the Opium Den. As always, I'm of two minds about the awards, but it is kinda cool to be nominated. (The same two stories are also up for SCREWZ awards, which is also kinda cool.)
I attended my first MW in 1995, and I've been to every one since 1997. Even though the focus isn't on slash, in some ways it's probably my favourite con. The people are great and I love that the U.N.C.L.E. slash and gen fen play nice together. And every year there's more great new people who attend.
Off to finish packing.

Date: 2004-05-27 08:10 am (UTC)I think I'll save my $50 and whatever I would have spent at the con and do something else that weekend. I doubt anyone will miss me at the con. Well maybe Malcom might notice.
Enjoy the con, seriously I am jealous! I think I had better start saving for an AWAY con soon.

Date: 2004-05-27 08:16 am (UTC)I'll actually be down in London the 2nd week in July - will you still be there for fannish hugs & lunch maybe?
Not sure what theatre you have in my mind but for a fun night out we recently saw 'When Harry met Sally' with Luke Perry & Alyson Hannigan! (ggg)

Date: 2004-05-31 04:30 pm (UTC)Alas, we're only going to be in London June 12 to 14 and then June 19 to 27. Don't suppose you'll be there any of those dates?
We were toying with When Harry Met Sally, but there was so much to choose from we couldn't fit it in. We are seeing Democracy (Roger Allam!), The Goat (Jonathan Pryce!), Suddenly, Last Summer (Diana Rigg!), Othello (Antony Sher!) and Journey's End (male bonding!). We've also got tickets to Nancy Sinatra, Jane Birkin and Orbital in concert. Should be interesting.

Date: 2004-05-31 04:40 pm (UTC)BTW, guess who Don had a big discussion about the Hellboy movie with in Dragonlady Comics a couple of weeks ago? Yep, it was Malcolm. Malcolm loved it. We, as you might know, were sceptical. (I'm pretty sure that Malcolm did not recognize me at all.)
