I got to meet Viggo Mortensen!

Okay, when I say meet, I mean I joined the throng in front of the Ryerson theatre tonight before the Alatriste premiere and asked him to sign my copy of Coincidence of Memory.

Here's the extent of my interaction:

Viggo: Who's should I make it out to?
Me: Pauline.
Viggo: Polly?
Me: Uh, no. Pauline.
Viggo: Oh. Like The Perils of.
Me: Yep.

I somehow refrained from mentioning the fact that The Perils of Pauline has been the bane of my existence since I learned about it, though I did tell him I've been following his career since The Indian Runner.

In the greater scheme of things, it was a small moment, but it totally put a smile on my face. Viggo was kind to all the fans there, very generous of his time and seems like a genuinely nice guy.

Aiding and abetting my fangirl moment was my Sweetie, who nobly got to the theatre two hours early to score a good spot in line so I could go out for a nice dinner with two very good friends. (Hey Nad and Sandy!). The Sweetie was rewarded for his good deed when the entire cast sat two rows in front of him for the screening, and Viggo stood right in front of him for the standing ovation at the end. (I, alas, was not there since the three of us had decided to try the front row. Note to Self: The front row at the Ryerson? Way too freaking close.)

To further round out the experience, David Cronenberg was in the audience, and Viggo planted a big kiss on him at the end of the screening. They're so cute together.

I'm still a low tech, film-in-camera kinda gal, so I can't post any pics right now, but if any of mine turn out, I'll have them up eventually.

Oh, and the film? Pretty darn good. I'll post a proper review once I've had some sleep.

Sleep would be the last thing on my mind - I would be too excited had I met my favourite actor. You will be walking around on cloud 9 for a while.

I do love Viggo's chin dimple!

If I ever felt the desire to use the word "squee" (which I don't) this would be it. I'll resort to an older expression: cool! Everyone who loves films ought to get a fangirl/fanboy moment now and again. Good on you!

Oh, and I'm thoroughly enjoying the reviews. Thanks for posting them! Go on, go see some more!

Ooooo... Viggo envy!! I Am Dead Jealous!

So is the film worth it? Hidalgo was such utter crap, but I did love History of V. He's making another Cronenberg film in London soon/next year - maybe if I take to hanging around street corners... ~_^

I'm breaking out into a spontaneous grin whenever I think about it.

And yeah, the chin dimple is pretty fun.

In 22 years of attending the fest, I've never asked an actor for an autograph, but I reckoned Viggo was the one to make the exception for.

As for my use of the word 'squee', let's just say LJ has corrupted me and leave it at that. *g*

:::squee::: Did you have to wipe the 'sex' off you? Cause, you know... It oozes out of his pores and everything... ;-)

I liked Alatriste quite a bit, though it is a bit breakneck. I've only read the first book in the series so far, but given that they went through that story in about fifteen minutes, it looks like they adapted every one of the books. Which means the narrative is a bit episodic and choppy and if you haven't read any of the books, it's a bit hard to follow. But Viggo looks fab, in a scruffy sort of way. (I've come to quite like the moustache.)

Just catching up with your Toronto Film Festival posts.

Wow --Viggo! Certainly worth a squee.

I loved History of Violence and tho Hidalgo lagged, I liked him and the horse.

VIGGO! VIGGO! VIGGO!

And he does sound polite, when asking if he is signing it for the correct person. Nifty!

He is quite as gorgeous in person as on screen. Although I wasn likely a bit too freaked out to properly enjoy the sex he was oozing at the time. *g*

I've never done the autograph thing at the fest before, but for Viggo I had to make an exception.

History of Violence is brilliant, and judging by how he and Cronenberg were so very friendly with each other after the screening (Don said they were doing hand signals to each other across the auditorium) it looks like the rumours they're working together again are true.

And yeah, Hidalgo isn't great cinema, but I'll watch it any time for Viggo and the horse.

He seems very respectful of his fans, which is nice.

I'm doubly looking forward to the second screening, since the director said there'll be a Q&A after that one. (They had to clear out the theatre for the midnight show after last night's screening, so there wasn't time for a Q&A.) I've got 22 hours to come up with a good question and the courage to ask it.

Swordplay isn't all the same...He was wielding some close to a bastard sword for LOTR, but I'll bet it's more like an epee for Alatriste. What differences did he notice, and which did he prefer and why....oh, you know the drill. Weaponry!

Brilliant! Perfect!

And you know I love my swords as much as the next gal. If the next gal is you!

Hey, it's the kind of thing a weapons junkie would ask--and you'll have the courage to ask because you really want to know the answer. Hell, I really want to know the answer.

Yeah. I'm the next girl. *g*

D is the sweetest sweetie ever. Oh, I remember the thrill of meeting my then tv boyfriend. All my IQ was sucked away, probably from the heat produced by my beet-red face. Good times.

So glad that meeting V was fun and memorable.

Thanks to you and your "sweetie" for getting me a ticket to the screening.

I really miss festing with you guys this year. I am glad my One film this year was that film. Between the film and Viggo's presence (with Cronenberg to boot) it was definitely a highlight.

Let us know how the QA at Thursday's screening goes.

D is the best, isn't he?

I was not at my most intelligent with Viggo, but hey, I was three people away from him and did manage to remember my name, so that's a good thing.

For you, my crazy, cross-dressing Viggo icon.

I'm glad you got to see one film. And that you enjoyed it.

I'll definitely report back on the Q&A.
